Here is Part 3 in a series of big band chart transcriptions that I will be posting periodically.
This transcription is a Latin tune called Soaring by Bob Florence. It is on the album Soaring that came out in 1983. The drummer on the album is Nick Ceroli. This is an advanced Samba arrangement that contains complex layered rhythms and incorporates the push -pull technique with the dominant hand. Stellar stuff. And so clean at this tempo. As I started to listen, right away it occurred to me that the opening passage is just a reverse bosa nova. Heck, I can play that. Just knock about 100 bpm off the quarter note time stamp at the top of the chart and it's not a problem.
