I volunteer at a draft horse rescue, these belgians look absolutely beautiful and in wonderful shape! Ignore the critics, probably non horse folks. Ive seen the worst of what bad horse owners can do and you are doing right by these horses. Well maintained horses are worth their weight in gold and will work for years beyond a poorly cared for one.

Stop worrying about insulting someone, there are always critics out there that can't keep quiet!!

every word you say is the truth!!! I still vividly remember one time when I was 16 and still learning from the best horseman I've ever met, there was heavy rain and the 30 year old mare was still outside grazing. I said "poor thing, shouldn't we put a blanket on her or take her inside?" and my mentor replied "why? she has shelter if she wants, and a blanket will only get soggy and make her even colder. she knows how to take care of herself"

As I say, you get what you give! That's everything in life. You treat those gentle giants with respect and love and they give it right back to you.❤

❤🎉 Awww your babies can never leave you John and vice versa right?! Thanks for another chance to see them, they're so majestic, more like bronze statues than animals. And please don't worry about not offending idiots, those who don't want to learn -- we all know that will never happen!! 😊🐎🐎❤️🙏🇺🇲🌳

I’ve only been watching this channel for a few days but everything I see about you handling and talking about your horses it seems like you are a very common sense owner/ handler of horses. Until the last few years I’ve owned or been around horses since I was 13 and I’ll be 70 in a few weeks. There’s no fear in the horse’s reaction to the interactions with you and they don’t avoid you when they could do so otherwise. I’d suspect that anyone would be happy with these guys if they get to a point they can’t do the work you need them for. Yet the condition they are in shows you provide excellent care for them, so they aren’t just tools to be mindlessly used up and discarded.

Their calm demeanor, the respect they have for you, and the way they eagerly look to you for instruction is evidence enough. What horse doesn't want a firm, yet compassionate, teacher? You're the true definition of a leader. You understand horses more than most.

You make absolute sense and people chat a LOT of horse ***t on the INTERNET 😅

Your horses look in very good condition, their hooves are well taken care and you must ignore the ones who are ignorant and clearly don’t know much about horses.
Good for you !!!

This sounds like a perfect retirement plan.
Thank you for taking impeccable care of your horses.

Good grief, ignore the critics. They are clueless, angry, pathetic people with an addiction to negativity. Your horses are lucky!

John you have trained those horses so well they will always be ok. A great way of thinking. Teaching them well gives them a gift for life. My grandfather was a polish horsebreeder and trainer before the war…his horses and training experience saved the family from being killed. I think horses in my dna so my uncle told me I was just like grandpa. I see you have a real gift in really understanding what a horse needs…a mean untrained horse with no respect is dangerous. You are doing them a real favour by teaching them well. God bless you and your team…my prayers are with you on your new adventure.❤

The horses are content, happy, and healthy. You seem to be an honest, kind, knowledgeable man. I'm an old Black city gal who has loved horses since I was a kid but only had limited opportunities to engage with them.. The first Belgian Drafts I saw irl were at a folk festival. I was utterly amazed that such a large powerful animal was so gentle. The others I saw were on YouTube at horse rescues. They would get them mostly from the Amish with sores, overgrown hooves, jacked up teeth, etc. It's good to see a responsible owner who genuinely cares about them and respects them as well. Keep up the good work and you look out for yourself as well.

I subscribe to 3 "rescue" channels - the Moons in France, Black Horses in UK and Clever Cowgirl in Montana.
They take unwanted horses and train them.
Nick Moon used to train "bad" showjumpers. Now they have retired showjumpers who are there until they die. And a menagerie of animals and kids 😊
Black Horses Friesians, Tracey Alexander runs a sanctuary scheme for unwanted Friesians. All the horses have training.
Clever Cowgirl picks up auction horses and trains them. She picked up a $25 foal from the Crow Reservation, totally wild. Scarlett is now 2, still reactive so her training will be slow and take a lot of patience. I have no doubt that Scarlet will be a wonderfully trained fun horse for CC in about 2 more years.
All these "rescue" channels train their horses. They don't give treats until their training session is done.
Their horses are given time, patience, training, medical needs, dental etc and affection.
They are not turned out in a field and left.
Some are "yard dogs" that mooch around free reigning in the yard (the Moons and Black Horses)
Many will never be ridden as they are old/medically incapable.
But there is value in these horses.
Some have given years in competing. (The Moons)
Some give their time and a comforting presence to humans, but it's mainly about happy, contented, fulfilled horses. (Black Horses)
Younger ones will be trained to be superb horses or retrained with patience and not fear (Clever Cowgirl mainly, but all 3 do pretty much the same)
In conclusion, don't paint all rescues with the same brush 😊
I have to say the u toob algorithm throws up a lot of recue channels that I don't see the training, so I don't subscribe.

I see you three are obviously a team, a group, a family that is based on trust and respect.

I don’t know your or your horses’ ages, but I’m wagering that they’ll be working with you a couple of decades.

I think all three of y’all, God willing, will naturally tapered down to easier work you can do as you all age.

When it’s time to be put out to pasture, my guess is they are already home.❤

As a riding instructor who had a great lesson string my horses were always retired to a client who loved them and had the property to keep them properly. The retired horse people were always keeping in touch because of sense of love, respect and responsibility. I always felt it my duty to those faithful horses

One retirement route for older draft horses is to become a "mentor", used in harness with young untrained ones. Put the new horse in a troika (3 abreast) between two old experienced horses and they do a lot of the teaching.

A farm in AZ used their oldest draft horses to pull tour wagons around the farm, and hayrides. It was light work and gave them something to do.
