As a local in that area, I would advise anyone hiking there in May or early June to wait until you get to Tahoe before sending away your cold weather gear. Anyway, it's easy hiking to Tahoe so it's not so much a burden.

Glad you're still plowing away at this point in the journey. I would have asked for a bunch of random cardboard and some tape and send that ice axe. Rip up the card into sheets and wrap it around it taping it all together. U could also pop it into a garbage bag and send. Not like the thing'll get broken. Ha ha ha.

Nice to lose two lbs off your pack. I’m sure you felt light as a feather once you got your new shoes and tent and got rid of the ice ax. And that you started warming up once you got past Lake Tahoe and past the sierras. Thanks for posting.
