NATURE NEEDS JUSTICE

Just as the climate movement demands climate justice, justice is needed in Nature conservation! In national parks, for example, one sees that without justice in conservation Indigenous people are banished from their lands or even killed.

Here it should be noted: 80 % of all the world's biodiversity is currently found on the lands of Indigenous peoples, because they generally maintain very regenerative lifestyles that place little stress on ecosystems.

A systemic change in conservation is needed. "Solutions" like CO2-Offsets, "Natural Climate Solutions" or "green capitalism"-projects ... none of this will save life on the planet. Even more so if nothing is done about the consumption of people in the Global North and the industries and governments responsible for biodiversity loss.

We are launching the #NatureNeedsJustice campaign from the Global North to reflect on our responsibility and how we think and act. The campaign aims to raise awareness that conservation in the past and today is often linked to racism, and to identify solutions for just conservation that protects human rights and biodiversity at the same time.
