I played Yu-Gi-Oh (synchro meta) back when I was in middle and high school. I didn't had any allowance, so I really had to work for my money like doing homework for others, help students buy drinks form the convenient store since they don't wanna run 3 flights of stairs, or starve every lunch break to save the lunch money my parents gave in high school. Sometimes if I'm lucky my grandparents would buy me booster pack (but very rarely).

Advice: When keeping track of counters or turns for anything, just use D10s. You can just use them to write out the number of something, like when I was playing MTG with a friend's Norin Deck and I was getting other Creatures up to over 400/400 (because we were doing like a 9 person battle royal). This can be used in keeping track of counters, but it can also be used in keeping track of turns for Final Countdown.

i literally quit playing yugioh because of how expensive it was.

you can start for cheap, but winning is where you'll lose a lot of money.

You can buy cards but the way the current meta is you're not likely going to be allowed to play unless you pay your opponent not to play hand traps/negates.
It's honestly the death of this game for newer players trying to get into competitive Yugioh.
No one wants to play a card game where they're prevented from playing the game let alone consistently invest money into it.
That's where Konami really went wrong with Yugioh in my opinion.
Too much of a focus on negating and preventing your opponent from making plays. That's just not fun or healthy for a game that's supposed to be competitive. It's like murdering another football team the day before a game and declaring victory when they don't show up the next day. That's a bit of an extreme analogy but it still holds true.

A little insight on how much do you need to spend to play competitive Yu-gi-oh ! : I had a friend who started playing competitive Yu-gi-oh recently and I believe he spent around 300$ to build himself a solid Orcust deck with a main deck, an extra deck and a side deck. I'd say the price to build a competitive deck in yu-gi-oh ranges between 300$ and 1000$ roughly depending on what deck you're going for because you can always find budget replacements for cards that are too expensive while remaining fairly competitive.
