We're sticking with horror movies for another episode of Things You Probably Didn't Know, and digging into another James Wan gem, Insidious. On the other side of the spectrum from the gore fest Saw, Insidious is a creative and terrifying spin on the haunted house genre. From ghosts hiding in plain sight to one of the best jump scares in recent memory, here are 7 Things You Didn't Know About Insidious... probably.

Starring Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, Insidious follows the time honored tradition of a family moving into a new house only to discover a demon is haunting the place. Written by James Wan's long time collaborator Leigh Whannell, who also wrote and appeared in Saw, it's a ghost story that proved to be a hit at the box office and proved to be a sort of renaissance for cult horror favorite Lin Shaye.

This episode was written by Brian Altano and edited by Tayo Oyekan.

that iconic jumpscare was so good for so many reasons, how they telegraph it by the cracling sound of the demon, how the whole scene frames Patrick Wilson in the same position so that when it cuts back to him the last time we are used to the composition and can't avoid that contrasting demon face looking at us

This movie scared my wife so bad she slept with the lights on for a week. A favorite in our house

I’m glad this movie seems to get the recognition it deserves. It’s a horror film with a reasonably logical plot, tense atmosphere, and unique design (for the demons and ghosts)

Fact 1 states that James Wan directed several Saw films. He only directed the first Saw film.

I saw this in theaters when I was about 12 or 13, after a phase of watching a lot of classic horror movies. Not a lot of them scared me, but for some reason this movie made me shit myself and not sleep. I don't know why.

Another thing people might not know: in the original film, the evil old woman’s ghost was played by a male actor because the crew thought it would be more uncanny looking. They eventually incorporated this into the second film as a plot point.

Also the “Long-Haired Fiend” ghost is played by J. LaRose, who you may recognize from his role in Saw IV, and from The Righteous Gemstones.

I remember watching this in highschool with some friends. In the middle of the movie, my town had a small earthquake and scared the crap out of everyone!

Nothing creeped me out until the mannequins just stared at Josh at the bottom of the stairs

Watched this with my ex-wife, way back in the day. "I don´t know, these new horror movies never really get me scared." Well, I didn't sleep for a week and she had a blast. One of my absolute favorite horror movies to this day, I just love it. The ghosts reminded me of Silent Hill 2 game, for some reason.

The sound and music in this movie are some of the most effective in the genre.

This movie bothered me. It isn't really scary but it made me feel the way sleep paralysis makes me feel. It's a good horror movie though, definitely worth watching.

I was actually reading a book and studying astral projection as well as meditating and taking steps to try it myself. Then I saw this movie. Then I threw that book away.

This movie is still scary, terrifying and legendary for me and some of my friends. I watched this film when I was like 6 years old and I got scared and terrified. Now I’m 17 I don’t get scared easily in films these day’s and insidious is still one of my favorite horror films of all time and of the 2010’s

Collabs between James Wan and Patrick Wilson produced a lot of great movies

I actually think the second one is scarier and I remember that one giving me true nightmares for a week

My favorite scene was when the mom hears the deamon talking on the baby's walkie talkie. That scared the sh*t out me.

The scariest part for me is the baby monitor, then she looks up the stairs and hears the terrifying yell 😟
