Hi All,
Just a university assignment I did based on Deafness subject. Video was aimed at young children entering a mainstream school (with deaf and hearing students).

If you're interested in using it at all, go for gold!

Big cheers to Dave Currie for the voiceover and Incompetech for the music!

Sign language is not an easy language to learn. Jessica when you get into something you pick it up with alot of work and a passion for it, like the uke, video making, school, and singing. Please continue to share your talents with us.

Question:
Is Auslan similar to American sign language?

I am not deaf. I learn ASL to communicate with them. They are all humankind. We should love them and help them all. Anyone who insults deaf will feel my anger.

Hello! I wanted to comment on something after reading all of the comments below. I see people are throwing in the term "ASL" here. I am a deaf person who uses ASL as a primary language. ASL is American Sign Language, and the language that is being used in the video is NOT ASL. This is another country's sign language. I would want to say that it is BSL, British Sign Language, but I may be very mistaken since I only know ASL.

This is a helpful little video for a primary class but at any higher level there are a bunch if inaccuracies that should really be corrected. This video only presents the pathological view of deafness and omits the cultural. It also represents sign languages as a gestured version of the corresponding geographic language. This is not the case, they are their own languages with their own grammar and embedded worldview etc. Food for thought

Helpful up to a point. But implies, near the beginning, that somehow (miraculously) if you're deaf, you can communicate using sign language - and therefore that everyone else out there, who is hearing, can also communicate with the deaf person this way. We all know that's not right! Whilst a very important language, ASL is used only by a small minority of people who are deaf - and it only enables them to communicate with others who also know ASL - or through an interpreter. So I find that part of your video seriously misleading. The majority of us are not born deaf - we acquire it later on - and it's highly unlikely that sign language will become our preferred language.. So Jerry's friend would be using other good communication tactics to communicate with his friend Jerry.
