I think game company need to stop announcing games way before they are even close to finishing the game

The thing for me is that team cherry is an indie group, and hollow knight had nearly no excitement until after it released and no pressure to release, and that’s why it is such a good game, especially compared to scarlet and violet where the time gap between games is tiny. They are a small group so they can’t get such a good out in much time. If Im right silksong was announced 2 years maybe 3 years after hk, and, at least to my knowledge, we don’t know how long hk was in development, it could be much more than the 5 years we are at now. I’m starting to make a game, and wouldn’t be surprised if it took 10 years for everything, and if my game does as well as hk, it would probably take longer to make a sequel as I would aim to make it better, it could take 15 years, I’m a team of 1. I realise that this is a very long way to say that I think people have unrealistic expectations of how long slksong could take.

At this point the expectations for Silk Song are so high that there's no way such a small team can deliver. It's similar to how Metroid Prime 4 and GTA 6 have extremely high expectations now, but at least we have a trailer for each of them and they look good so far (and are confirmed for next year too)

i think with ZA, it's different because Pokémon is notorious for overpromising and crunching devs. I'm glad they're keeping quiet.

We got a 2D and 3D Metroid before Silksong.

People need to realize that from an indie game company it should be totally expected to take really long, for example for how to not create a good game is totk, as they had a big development team but released the game not when it was actually good, but when it was in playable-ish state because of all the people complaining about the wait

I think everyone who hyped themselves up to unimaginable levels for years on end are going to be disappointed because no game can ever live up to their imagined Silksong hype. Meanwhile, the rest of us who didn't make waiting for Silksong our whole personality will be excited to enjoy the game once it's ready.

I don't care about silksong, but once it's close to coming out, I will care a lot.
Silksong is just dormant hype

Hollow Knight came out when my daughter was 1 month old. I played it with my then boyfriend one year into our relationship. That boyfriend is now my fiancé and my daughter is turning 8 in January and my son is 1.5 years old lol. I was 21 when I played hollow Knight and now I'm pushing 28 in a few short months. The wait has been insane and I'll be honest I'm always iffy on sequels because they usually never live up to the original and I lowkey feel silksong will feel the same but I'm hoping and open minded to being proven wrong. Most importantly this is an indie game studio. Team Cherry is a team of less than 5 people.

I have no problem in waiting, but the problem is lack of communication from the team. They could have just said something like "No silksong this year folks" and we all be good to go, but I'm just gonna say it.
UNITED WE HOPE, DIVIDED WE COPE.

I get the frustration, but it really feels so entitled, and I have a few reasons why:
1. People expect things instantly and it’s honestly feeling pretty entitled. Like I get that you’re excited, but you have to live with the fact that you’re not OWED the game *now.* Sure, in this one specific case, part of silksong’s content is part of the Kickstarter promise, so you’re *technically* owed the game itself (even that feels entitled to me, but I’ll at least cede that argument), but you’re not owed it *now, * or next month or even next year. It’ll come out when it’s ready.
2. There’s so many reasons for the delay. Just as COVID was mentioned in the video, which really set people back, this is also a game that’s way bigger than the original AND a really small dev team. But the kicker? HK and silksong were developed on Unity, which recently had the controversy where 200, 000 installations requires devs to give Unity a portion of every installation. Not purchase, *install.* Which means that every game pass download would LOSE Team Cherry money. So there’s the very real fact that they may’ve had a massive setback from having to reprogram the whole game (which again, is huge) on a new engine.
3. There’s other games. Just as was mentioned in the video, there’s TONS of other metroidvanias, many of which are directly inspired by hollow knight, that you can play in the mean time.

All in all, I get the frustration, I really do. HK was great, silksong looks to be even better, we’re all excited and want to play it. But at the end of the day, it’s really not that serious

That sucks that Hollow Knight Silksong hasn't fully announced during gamescon.
But at the same time, I'd rather let Team Cherry take their time and effort for Hollow Knight Silksong rather than Team Cherry rushing Hollow Knight Silksong.
But on the bright side, I'm looking forward for Little Nightmares 3 and Reanimal, and I hope that the third Little Nightmares game and Reanimal doesn't suck ass!

I don't care about Silk Song because I didn't like Hollow Knight, not my thing. But wait...only 5 years, during Covid too? ....Plus tons of Metroidvania games? Geez, thats not a long time. I feel like its been way longer. They are indie, idk how their system work, but this is me begging Gamefreak to take 5+ years on any Pokemon game. Wished that was Legends taking that long...

5 years isn't even that much of a wait. People are just used to getting constant updates.

Silksong is still a day 1 purchase for me. Maybe it will live up to the hype, maybe it won't. But I'm not too concerned about it. I have plenty of games in my backlog in the meantime.

8:30 this applies to Prime 4. Metroid fans waited for about the same time as Silk Song and look at what they have now. An beautiful game that will most likely be a launch title for the Switches successor. Patience is a virtue, and waiting to see what Silk Song devs have in store for their fans.

Hot take: I'd rather they stay radio dead silent until a month or so if they think silk song is ready. They announced it early, which is already a bad start, but the constant reminders that it's not coming out is just making us bite the curve. I understand it's a big game for a small studio, but they really bit off more than they can chew with this one
