Experienced the exact same thing a month ago. Luckily for me. I got in the car and noticed it right away. Went to the local auto parts store and bought one bottle of power steering fluid and top it off. The sound went away immediately

Awesome tips, straight to the point, great advice. Fixed my 2003 Chevy Venture steering pump noise issue without replacing the whole pump in 10 minutes after watching this! Thank you man!!!

Awesome video. Opal Astra was making this noise, the fluid was bad looking but not low. Replaced the power steering pump and it appears to have resolved it. Very painful job in an Astra but super pleased it fixed the issue. Great video.

The rack was replaced on my 2000 Ford Ranger last April. Went to mechanic months later for an oil change or something and was told the rack they installed had a manufacturer defect. I asked for a tune-up (estimate was $450-$500) so I needed to save the $ for it, and was told they'd replace the rack when they did the tune-up. When I took the truck back in, I was told there was no need for the tune-up, but the power steering pump had to be replaced and told that was the cause of the rack issue. Rack was still under warranty, but I was charged $360 labor to replace the rack. Total bill was $996.29 (Replace warranty rack, replace power steering pump, power steering fluid, oil change, replace tailgate handle, and replace front head lamps). Didn't think my bill would be THAT high. The headlight lamps were $90 each and charged $140 labor for their install. $28.02 of the bill was a credit card fee. I felt like I shouldn't have had to pay a penny for the rack replacement or the credit card fee (no fee if paying with cash). Am I wrong?

From my understanding the 3rd gen Rangers and B3000 power steering pumps where notorious for being noisy to begin with, making it a bit harder to diagnose a bad pump.

Some cars have a filter in the reservoir and mostly making the problem by blocking the oil to the pump, in my case a Toyota

Sir….THANK YOU! Like yours, mine was aerated but wasn’t really that low. I put some fluid in and topped it off, rotated the steering wheel a few times and the noise immediately got much quieter. I do have a leak and when I swiped some from the ground the other day, it was clear. I wasn’t sure which fluid was clear but with that awful noise every time I turned and even when I drove, I just knew it was power steering. The only thing that deterred me from thinking it was, is because I wasn’t having any issues steering. Apparently that isn’t an indicator. Although the noise went from about a 10 to a 3, I still think I may need a pump. But this video helped me tremendously! I had watched so many other videos that never demonstrated the actual noise so I had no clue what to look at. THANK YOU!!! You definitely have a new subscriber!

Rather than top it off, I suck the fluid out of the reservoir with a turkey baster and fill it with Lucas premium power steering fluid. I have found this to noticeably improve performance of the system. They also have a product with stop-leak, if you think you have a small leak it might help.
