The question is in the Edexcel format but you can apply the techniques and tips to any transactional task, regardless of the exam board. The video explains the basics and gives you the opportunity to explore your own techniques and ideas
Make sure you letter is logically arranged in paragraphs.
Try to include a wide range of appropriate vocabulary when trying to communicate the point you are making.
- Remember selecting appropriate vocab will enhance your point.
- Check your work...put time aside to check...do timed papers...if you are revising and do a question check your work...if you have any marked responses try to reflect on comments from the marker.
Good luck with your revision!
Exam Question: Letter
There have been a number of serious traffic accidents involving children on a busy road in your area. Write a letter to your local Council, suggesting ways in which such accidents could be avoided.
In your letter you could:
- state why this issue is important to you
- describe your personal experiences
- explain how implementing your suggestions will improve the local community
as well as any other ideas you might have.
*Your response will be marked for the accurate and appropriate use of vocabulary, spelling, punctuation and grammar.
(Total for Question 8 = 40 marks)
Think about the features typical of a letter:
address
date
greeting
sign off
Think about the way you are going to argue your case, get your way, express your POV - the video will give you chance to organise your ides and create a clear, logical structure for your argument - you will need to use a range of paragraphs to construct your argument. Try using paragraphs of different lengths to help hold the attention of your audience.
