Chats with the CEO: Why Does My Heater POOF?

Ever wondered why your Smudge Pot occasionally ‘poofs’? It all comes down to fuel temperature and vapor consistency. Here’s the scoop:

👉 Your fuel isn’t hot enough to create enough vapor for a steady burn. The heater uses all the vapor, goes out in the stack, then reignites when the bowl creates more vapor—causing that infamous ‘poof.’

💡 Pro Tips for a Consistent Burn:
✔️ Keep your regulator off a bit longer at start up and crack to allow fuel to heat up, once it starts burning consistently make a regulator setting.
✔️ Keep your regulator holes facing the return pipe for optimal performance.
✔️ Crack your regulator if you're running low on fuel (especially Gen 1 models).
✔️ Clean your stack regularly to minimize carbon build-up and keep airflow strong.

I expect that the return air tube will perform better if you rotate the heater so the stack shields it from whatever breeze there may be?
