Lizard Queen vs Octavix - Electro Harmonix octave fuzz shootout

Hi folks, in this video, we'll compare two great octave fuzzes from @EHX: the Octavix and the Lizard Queen.

The Octavix is inspired by the vintage Octavia Fuzz used by Jimi Hendrix. It features Volume, Boost, and Octave knobs. A toggle switch on the Octavix lets the player select 9 or 24 volt power rails. At 9V the pedal behaves like the classic, saggy fuzz box. At 24V the Octavix delivers a tighter sound and a richer octave tone.

The Lizard Queen is designed by Josh Scott of JHS Pedals and graphic designer Daniel Danger as a homage to Electro-Harmonix. A fixed gain fuzz pedal features Volume, Octave, and Balance knobs. The Balance knob sets the tone balance between the smoother Shadow setting and the raspy, biting Sun setting.

Thanks for the video, I've also been waiting for this since I was looking for a deal on the Octavix the time when the promos for the Lizard Queen came out. It sounds like the Octavix is farting out and can't handle the gain from the 3:00-4:00 mark.
I own the Lizard Queen and thought mine was defective. There doesn't seem to be any Octave effect or difference when the dial is changed from 0-90% on any setting. Then the last 10% it's dramatic. The last 5% isn't really usable but that 95% is where it'll be parked at. I don't see much different between the shadow and sun setting, the sun is a bit brighter but not by much. The Shadow you have to adjust the volume a but to compensate. It has a lot of noise as well, radio interference etc.
This pedal really shines when you back the pickup volume off way down. It sounds great, some of the sounds I was chasing but didn't know how to get there. It's very useful on the pedalboard.

I played them both and definitely had more fun with the Lizard Queen!

Octavix, all the way, but you have to tweak it, it has so many overtone sounds, a wide range of sounds but you have to dial it.

I kinda like them both. They both sputter really good. Different flavor but same territory. After owning a silicon fuzz factory clone and the sf300, I can say I have found the fuzz pedals for me; one basic octave fuzz to drive a crazy one even further 😂.
