My mom was a Lutheran missionary Sourh Africa 1950-1955. She said there were times she worked with Catholic nuns and they all prayed together. There was bo Protestant or Catholic on rhe mission field. Yup. So, my mom told me that the nuns really helped people, at least the ones she met.

Agree or disagree, always interesting Brother Shade. ( I thought I posted a link to the theses but somehow my comment was dumped. Also I had a comment about the Mennonite perspective, which basically goes along the line that Luther did NOT go far enough in his efforts to "right the ship")

That was a great study bro! Very eye-opening. I never looked into those 95, I just assumed certain things about it. Surprisingly, those theses didn't sound like much of a protest to me. It felt like Luther was more pro papal than anti. I thought he was the trailblazer to the doctrine of the papacy as the great antichrist. I truly learned something new from this video. Great job bro. Peace!

Have you looked into the Baptist heritage with the red line going back to the Apostles? It was running parallel to this time. I'll try to find that information. Just one more thing that makes church history more colorful. Yes, I grew up on it. It really exists according to passing down the heritages. This will explain some of that protesting. But, this other group was protesting long before Luther.

The Baptist church and Christian school gave the impression the pastors were always right. Ever heard of Jack Hyles, Jerry Fowell, and many more. Umm. They were the Baptist like bishops. You did not argue or question any Baptist authority ever. I used to think my pastor was as good as Jesus as a little girl. You know, those big wooden pulpits. That was the holy place or so I thought. Now, I look back and it was similar to how Catholics view their leadership. When I got switched to Assemblies of God, it was people like Jimmy Swaggert and a few more big names. Its in every denomination. If you sinned in the Baptist Church really bad, like a girl getting pregnant before marriage, she and her boyfriend had to walk down the aisle, the pastor prayed and they confessed publicly in church! Before that, they met with the pastor behind closed doors for confession time. I got soo many stories. So do my friends. Then, the Protestants do and say how bad Catholics are. I have Catholic friends. Guess what? We actually greet each other and pray. What a concept!
Yes, we had our list of good works too. A different form of indulgences. I stead of purgatory, we got if you are not saved, your going straight to H.... (A fiery place forever) As they shake there finger all red faced. At the end, it was "Just As I Am" for alter call. Confession time. Stop backsliding. Exactly what's the difference? The confessional booth or rhe pastor's office? Then, we had many sermons in the Middle East and how a certain group is extremely chosen. The news of the week was equal to the Bible and Rapture any day. Are you going up? Better make sure. We had works, the pastors who absolve sin (they just said they didn't), the public confessions, the tithes and offerings, the rules, and oh! Guess who the Independent Fundamental Baptist Denomination elevates nearly equal to Jesus Christ? The Apostle Paul!!!! Im dead serious. Then, they turn and accuse Catholics about Mary. Idol worship is idol worship. Neither is right!!! No, Baptists do not pray to the saints but they got their dear brothers who died on a pedestal. Ever heard of John Rice? I forgot a few other big names. Then, we got the different sects with huge headquarters. Orders came down the pipe. No Denomination is perfect. Each Denomination has its issues.
Ultimately, Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church and we should have home Bible Fellowships. Group discussion reading from the Bible, oray, sone songs, and a meal. MN and do something fun after. Real fellowship. No Church / state government religion. I got so many more stories. Its not funny. Demerit System at the Christian School like a military. Where is the Grace? We would make art projects Demerit charts. If we broke a rule, we got a color matk on it. Blue for not doing homework. Red for tardy or breaking dress code. Black for lying or cheating. More! If you got 20 demerits, you went to the principal office for spanking with a note home to parents. Some kids got beaten at home too. At least my home was more lax. I had classmates black and blue!!! We were horrible sinners. I got chapel stories too- nightmare. Then, the Baptists criricize the Catholics??? They are equal in guilt over things. Don't get me started in the Southern Baptist Denomination. Oh boy! A disaster.
We need home fellowships!!! Leave the buildings. Thats what I would like.
In the 70's, in Minnesota, guess who the Baptists voted for? Jimmy Carter. Ehen Abortion was going to be made law, my church said we don't get involved in politics. Are you kidding! Now go look up the numbers on abortions in Minnesota today in 2024. Makes me so angry. I walked with Catholics a few years ago for Prolife Pregnancy Center to save lives! We had a same cause. I think all denominations in Christianity needs to examine their own area first. Take the plank out of their own eye first. My two cents. Yes, Ive been guilty if criticizing the Catholics. But, given my assessment here, the Baptists snd the Catholics have their issues equally. So do the Pentacostal Denominations. What about the NAR that abuses the gifts?? The fakse prophets? The huge "indulgence money" given to the mega churches. Then, these pastors got private jets and 3 mansions. How is this different than the accusations against the Vatican? Yes, abuse too in every denomination regarding babies, children and teens. The entire Church, the whole thing, is the Beast!!! Heresies and money and abuse in all of it. Im soo aware what Shade is talking about. I've been in the middle of the mess!!! God is going to deal with this. It will happen. Thank you for listening. Jesus Christ did none of this! Its bad people in the system. Wolves in sheep clothing.

I've always respected Mary, the Mother of Jesus. I just do not pray to her.

Shade, I don't know if I should be embarrassed for you or concerned that my suspicions about you may be correct. How anyone could read Luther's 95 theses and NOT see the glaring disdain for Papal indulgences and excessive greed, along with unsanctioned Papal authority is beyond me....unless you have an agenda. And, it's quite interesting that in your attempt to prove that Luther "believed" in purgatory you left out his first two reference to it:

10. Ignorant and wicked are the doings of those priests who, in the case of the dying, reserve canonical penances for purgatory.
11. This changing of the canonical penalty to the penalty of purgatory is quite evidently one of the tares that were sown while the bishops slept.

All of his references to "purgatory" show how this doctrine is man-made and intended to line the Papal coffers in return for absolution, either in life or death. In 16, he mocks purgatory, calling it "almost-despair."

Money and Greed
66. The treasures of the indulgences are nets with which they now fish for the riches of men.
67. The indulgences which the preachers cry as the "greatest graces" are known to be truly such, in so far as they promote gain.
82. To wit: -- "Why does not the pope empty purgatory, for the sake of holy love and of the dire need of the souls that are there, if he redeems an infinite number of souls for the sake of miserable money with which to build a Church? The former reasons would be most just; the latter is most trivial."
84. Again: -- "What is this new piety of God and the pope, that for money they allow a man who is impious and their enemy to buy out of purgatory the pious soul of a friend of God, and do not rather, because of that pious and beloved soul's own need, free it for pure love's sake?"
86. Again: -- "Why does not the pope, whose wealth is to-day greater than the riches of the richest, build just this one church of St. Peter with his own money, rather than with the money of poor believers?"

Papal Impotence
6. The pope cannot remit any guilt, except by declaring that it has been remitted by God and by assenting to God's remission; though, to be sure, he may grant remission in cases reserved to his judgment. If his right to grant remission in such cases were despised, the guilt would remain entirely unforgiven.
33. Men must be on their guard against those who say that the pope's pardons are that inestimable gift of God by which man is reconciled to Him;
34. For these "graces of pardon" concern only the penalties of sacramental satisfaction, and these are appointed by man.
76. We say, on the contrary, that the papal pardons are not able to remove the very least of venial sins, so far as its guilt is concerned.
79. To say that the cross, emblazoned with the papal arms, which is set up [by the preachers of indulgences], is of equal worth with the Cross of Christ, is blasphemy.
81. This unbridled preaching of pardons makes it no easy matter, even for learned men, to rescue the reverence due to the pope from slander, or even from the shrewd questionings of the laity
82. To wit: -- "Why does not the pope empty purgatory, for the sake of holy love and of the dire need of the souls that are there, if he redeems an infinite number of souls for the sake of miserable money with which to build a Church? The former reasons would be most just; the latter is most trivial."

Come clean, Man. Are you a Jesuit? You seem eager to defend a false Christian religion like Roman Catholicism under the guise of "Universal" love and togetherness. It's like you're playing a part, but your cover is starting to unravel in a big way. Seems a bit obvious, given that the Roman Catholic charter is to turn everyone Catholic, eventually.

Protestants, as few in number as we may be these days, are not going anywhere, though. And we certainly will never join hands with a harlot church that is drunk with the blood of the saints of God and loves the traditions of men more than the commandment of God.

Which "Holy Father" do you revere? The one in Rome, or the one in Heaven?🤔
