Great advice, Sally. I just subscribed. We are a retired couple who loves to boondock. We have been living FT in a 1999 National Tropical Class A for the last 5 years and love it. One thing I'd like to add to the discussion is the importance of a high weight carrying capacity in addition to large tank capacities (fresh water, gray, black, propane and fuel) and storage space. Look for self-propelled models with tag axles, if possible, as they increase your load capacity greatly. We carry 110 gallons of fresh water which barely last us for 2 weeks of off grid living. We often have to go on a water run with our toad to bring back another 15 gallons to get us through the BLM and FS 2 week camping limit. An extend-a-stay propane kit that allows the use of portable propane tanks helps too, as you can leave your MH with a large ASME tank at your campsite and go get some extra propane in your toad if you run short. Finally, you can add solar to practically any RV, like we did, but it adds weight. You'll want a lot of solar and batteries for boondocking, which adds lots of weight, so make sure you select a model with the highest weight carrying capacity to meet your needs. We have 3, 700 lbs. of carrying capacity and that's barely enough. I recommend a minimum of 2, 000lbs capacity for the first person, another 1, 500lbs for the second person. If you have a big family - good luck. 😊

Great info.! Slide location can be a deal breaker for me…. Super important (to me at least) to be able to access the bathroom AND the fridge on driving days… and like you, the ability to easily overnight without extending the slides…

Hope you and handsome Kit had a good Thanksgiving!

Hi Sally. Was so glad to meet you at KOKO fest. I am trying to decide if I should sell my Roadtrek and go with a C or a trailer. It’s about space vs ease of driving. MPG. Ability to go out without needing to move “home”. So much to consider. I keep thinking tow a car or tow a trailer, lol I don’t want to tow anything really. I love my van, but not for full time.
