I just think we are all spoiled with prehistoric plants cgi

If only we lived in a timeline where the WWD sequel gets a budget that breaks the record set by the original WWD being the most expensive documentary ever made

The CGI looks fine, but I think we were spoiled because of the Prehistoric Planet's CGI quality.

Overall, it doesn’t look bad.
The animation is serviceable.
It does look odd at times but the more i look at it the better it does look.

While I do am excited for it, there are some things I am kinda worried and disappointed of.

And that’s the lack of immersion that the original has, where it feels like an actual film crew went back in time filming this.
Overall, it doesn’t feel like they are challenging the aspect of filmography and immersion like other documentaries like prehistoric planet or even surviving earth.

Im hoping that with the less insane cgi that it means the story telling and amount we see will be next level. If it has soul, it won't matter if the cgi isnt up to par with Prehistoric Planet. Good time to be a dino fan.

I’m still sad that Kenneth Branagh isn’t coming back to do the narration. Really doesn’t feel the same without him

Emphasize on the Tyrannosaurs & Dromaeosaurs' impeccable jawline designs.

You're the first person I've seen who noticed the ammonite in the foreground of that shot with the Albertosaurus and the Azhdarchid. Nice catch! ;)

Shame they aren’t going with the Triassic-Cretaceous like they did in the original, but I’m still pumped

Seeing Pachyrhinosaurus in this is nostalgic as hell. I still remember buying a copy of the 2013 film

I am looking forward to seeing the new series on PBS in June. I remember watching the original series of Walking With Dinosaurs on Discovery Channel back in 2000.

The lack of puppetry + a focus solely on the Cretaceous will be significantly noticed. WWD gave lots of at-the-time unknown animals time to shine from beyond the famous few, and especially having the Triassic was just especially important. Can't say I'm not excited for what we'll get though, and I'm excited to hear Bertie Carvel as our new narrator (I miss Kenneth though)

WWD 2025 "Hey, can I copy your homework?"

Prehistoric Planet: "Sure, just change it up a bit to make it less obvious"

I really hope there's much more to this, because I'm already seeing too many instances of them directly copying Prehistoric Planet.

So far:

T.rex vs Quetz

Sumo wrestling sauropods with inflatable air sacs.

Semi-aquatic giant theropod in an aquatic environment (okay its Spino and not Deinocheirus, but both scenes have similar vibes)

Forest fire scene with dromaeosaurs and ankylosaurs

Small Tyrannosaurine theropod vs Pachyrhinosaurus

Triceratops adult & young

Mating Tyrannosaurs rubbing snouts

Like, I'm all for new accurate paleo media, but holy crap, I was expecting something new and different as far as the species and setting featured, not some copy-paste in a different font and page format...

I also dont see any Triassic or Jurassic species here, and that worries me.

The Cretaceous is far too over-represented these days.

This looks great my only issue it's that it dosen't have that feeling of a filmcrew recording in real time like original show and rest of the Walking with series

I'm...kind of excited, I don't really have any concerns over the CGI, I just think the dinosaurs look a little goofy and silly looking, It's like.theyre trying to reinvent them to attract a new kind of audience that are used to the usual look of the dinosaurs. For the recored the greatest dinosaur documentary was Prehistoric Planet. Absolutely fantastic show, that did dinosaurs brilliantly and its narration and how it educated us with its little sequences was wonderful, as opposed to the little vignettes we get in the shows now.

Hot take: I don't really care too much about how perfectly accurate a dinosaur should look like in a documentary. I watch stuff like these mainly for watching how they lived, interacted with one another, etc.

I just hope the animators didn't have tight deadlines and budget cuts

Interesting that it looks as if the Triceratops and Quetzalcoatlus in the trailers are showing what looks like threat displays too. There likely would be instances where say a T. rex wouldn't target a Triceratops that looked too confident in its defenses, which would show animal intelligence when they back off from failed hunts or when herbivores do show predators they're healthier than they estimate.
