As somebody with diagnosed depression this the feels very validating I appreciate you sharing your expertise to those who may be suffering I didn’t know that my random moments of anger then regret could be my depression and now I’m crying in the bathroom at work because I finally know how to explain why it happens

I’ve been thinking I have depression for a while but I am just told im “moody”. I have the worst memory and I’m told it’s because of trama. I can barley do anything because of no motivation and I’m told I’m “just lazy” or “on my phone to much.“ I can’t go out in public without crying (if I’m alone) I’m no longer incredibly sad, I’m just empty. It’s like I’m not really here.

I have all except the last one, i used to be so good at remembering things but now i forget simple words i usually use. I stress eat a lot ( usually ice cream or snacks). and i get angry at almost everything nowadays, even when i dont want to. But i feel like stress eating really helps tho, Doesnt it?

I have recently been feeling overwhelmed and sometimes I feel nothing. I wake up in the middle of the night for no reason. Everything I do feels like a burden to me (I'm a student). And all the symptoms you listed, i clearly have them.

I’ve been thinking that i feel depressed this past year, and this basically confirmed it for me. But I don’t want to talk to my mom about it because I don’t want to worry her. This has been a rough past year, and I’m trying to make things better for her, and be a better daughter. I talked to a psychiatrist for my ADHD, but I didn’t mention this. It made me uncomfortable to talk to him because I didn’t know him.

I love how you present this as symptoms that mask depression when many of these are in fact the depression criteria themselves - change in appetite, irritability (especially in children/adolescents), poor concentration, sleep disruption. Sometimes we don’t associate these experiences with depression but as we find more wholeness and understanding of our experiences through self-awareness, we begin to see how the mind body and spirit are really one 🙏 from a fellow psychologist deep gratitude for your hands on, accessible content. It makes a difference!
