My sister worked with terminal patients. I was waiting to go to lunch with her and she was training a new hire. I heard her tell the new hire "never hesitate to come and tell me that someone doesn't look good b/c your afraid of being wrong". You can't die from embarrassment but our patients can die from lack of action.

Experienced ER techs have seen it all. Newbies can take note when seasoned workers speak, it might save someone's life.

I was a hospice tech and a Covid unit tech. I can’t tell you how many new nurses would get mad when the doctor would cut them off and ask for my opinion instead. Their reasoning? “She sees these patients everyday, she’d notice changes before you did.” Most respect is ever received was from the doctors. I’ve only had one nurse who didn’t treat me like shit and she was a little angel

My mom was a longgg term ER heart tech. Her eyes were so trained she could see things no one else could. She ruffled some feathers but saved many lives from some stubborn docs and nurses. Trust your team when they speak up.

That's when you learn the difference between academic knowledge, and clinical knowledge

For real. People need to listen to the techs and respect them. They are in those rooms more often than we are. I never dismiss their concerns. We are all in this together

It’s scary when you realize, there’s nurses with this attitude in charge of critical patients

As a registered nurse for 38 years, when anyone says that the patient doesn't look good - run as fast as you can to that patient's bedside!! I would frequently tell the tech that I depend on them to be my second set of eyes and ears, and that they could take care of me or my family members. Don't disrespect your techs!!( RIP Momma and Roz - best techs I ever worked with!)

Techs are so incredibly undervalued. The amount of work they put in to make sure the patient is not only comfortable but also safe is IMPERATIVE in the hospital. I always tell everyone on my floor that open communication is the number one thing we can do between our staff and our patients!

I'm a retired LPN, over 30yrs in nursing. I started out as an N/A. That was before certification was required. I learned from LPNs, RNs and good MDs. You always listen to others because they are extra eyes and ears. God bless all caring medical workers.

Love how the ER tech was looking at them like “You better pray to god I misheard you.”

I love that you include housekeeping. They get to hear all the drama and stay uninvolved!
When I do psych consults in the ER, I get report from whoever has had contact with the pt! The sitters are sometimes surprised...

Tech insights are invaluable. I was a newbie nurse in a rehab 8 years ago. A tech came to me and said something was wrong, the patient was behaving differently than they had earlier in the day. She had altered mental status but i didnt know her that well. Took the tech at her word because the patient was confused. No other nurse listened. I sent her to the hospital and she ended up having a brain bleed. I will never doubt a tech ever again.

As a veteran ER tech, I approve this message.

I love that you added housekeepers, cause they are 100% part of our team, without them, our jobs wouldn’t be so smooth! Thank you guys, we just want you to know we appreciate all of you that work hard to help make our system run smoothly! We know it isn’t always easy, but we see you.
And if you are part of the professional staff, make sure you appreciate your housekeepers, it’s not an easy job! They are the lowest paid and get treated poorly most of the time. I will absolutely give staff crap if I see them mistreat them. I got my start as a housekeeper in a hospital, and worked there putting myself through medical school! I always vowed to make sure I treat them with the utmost respect, because I worked hard and was barely appreciated for my work, and it kind of hurt knowing I was being looked down on for being bottom of the barrel.

I'm a dentistry student, and during our first week in the lab everyone would run to this one guy to ask him for advice. We all thought he was one of the dental technicians, turns out he's the veteran housekeeper. He's such a sweet soul, always helps us when he's around. His explanations literally saved me on our first practical test 😊

As a house keeper in a hospital, I can tell you that without a doubt that this is exactly what would happen. RESPECT those that work with the tech!
