I don't like just working on a laptop at home as I find having a small screen & small mousepad is not good / is difficult to use. I find having another screen (along with a separate keyboard and mouse) helps enhance my productivity, so it's super useful to be able to add a second screen to my laptop.
This video will show you, step-by-step, how to set everything up.

🔽 WHAT YOU WILL NEED 🔽
To connect a second monitor to your laptop, so you can have two screens working, you will need:
Monitor
Monitor Power Lead
Laptop Power Lead
HDMI Cable
Keyboard
Mouse
🔽 PROCESS - HOW TO CONNECT A SECOND MONITOR TO YOUR LAPTOP 🔽
✔ 1. Put the HDMI cable into HDMI slot on reverse of your monitor, wherever the ports are located.
✔ 2. Insert power lead into your monitor, then switch the power on.
✔ 3. Hook up external keyboard & mouse. I do this so I can use the laptop purely as a monitor - no need to touch the laptop at all! Plus it's better ergonomically.
✔ 4. Insert power lead into the laptop power port. I find this works best when working on two monitors to avoid sudden shutdown of your system. Switch power on.
✔ 5. Insert HDMI cable into HDMI port on laptop. You should see the laptop screen go off momentarily as the two monitor setup is put into action. Arrange the physical setup as required.
✔ 6. Turn on your monitor, and you should see the dual setup working.
🔽 SETTINGS CHANGES - HOW TO CONNECT YOUR LAPTOP TO A MONITOR AND USE BOTH DISPLAYS - 'EXTEND THESE DISPLAYS' 🔽
When connecting a second monitor to your laptop, with an HDMI cable, it often creates a duplicated monitor setup (identical screens). To run two separate displays, make some display settings changes 👇
✔ 1. To get an extended desktop, first type 'display' in search box - located to bottom left of screen - it may be different for you.
✔ 2. Select 'Duplicate or extend to a connected display'. Display settings open. A duplicated display is denoted by two numbers appearing in one box, e.g. 1 | 2.
✔ 3. To extend your display and use the 2nd monitor i.e. have two separate screens running on your laptop, scroll down to 'multiple displays'. Select 'extend these display' from the list.
✔ 4. A message appears 'keep these display settings?' Select 'keep changes' if happy with the extended display setup. Select 'revert' to return to a duplicated display.
You should now have two separate displays to work on!
