Valheim Review | Trash or Tremendously good?

Valheim is an early-access open-world Viking themed survival game released on february the second 2021. This game features both solo and co-op play with up to 10 players and it seems really promising. But is it really a good game? or is it all just a massive hype train?

Best 50 hours I've had in a long time, only other game I remember paying all day for several days in a row in recent years has been Kingdom Come Deliverance

100 hours and I'm still addicted. My biggest request at the moment is craftable storage expansion. Would be nice to have bags with 4-8 slots for foraging. Most of my time is spent resources management and gets annoying running out of space all the time.

the more you advance and progress you will get a lot of stamina and health.
i reached over 220 health

For the weight you can buy a belt from the merchant that increases your carry weight.
Also crafting carts is handy to transport stuff around.

You can use a hoe to make a path through the landscapes.

Hi protoxx, just a heads up that you can upgrade your weight. Find the trader in the black forest. You'll need a good amount of gold to buy it (around 800-900 if memory serves). You can get good gold via troll caves early on.

Great review! Good weighing of the pros and cons. I haven't gotten to play it yet, but I find the stamina bar interesting. Makes for a more strategic and realistic approach to resource gathering than you get in, say, Minecraft (which I love). People will also be quite used to a stamina bar from Skyrim and other games like that.

perhaps they can keep the bronze recipie but change the output to 3 bronze bars or change it to 1 tin one copper and output 2 bronze bars

I understand the bronze & iron thing as the same happened in real life. People stuck with Bronze lost to those who could craft with iron. But; a game should take this info and do something fun with it, not make the player pull their hair out.

You should try Outward, it has similar particles and has a unique theme of “you’re literally just A Person yet you wanna explore.” I personally only play survival games with cheats on so it was fun af lol. My brother usually prefers cheats in games but he found Outward really engaging and this review kept reminded me of my time in Outward.

If you do decide to play it, keep in mind that the graphics aren’t the best, the combat requires timing that’s slightly worse than RuneScape’s tic system, and there’s no live map so you gotta figure out where you’re headed without a little arrow that shows you where you are.

not trash, not tremendously good. Its overhyped but decent for early access. Free games have more content and depth than this one though. Early access tag seems more like a marketing tactic to sell a sub par game. People are more sympathetic to games under development and it was evident in the early reviews. You say its cheap and worth it.. clearly you have not played enough free to play survival games on both pc and mobile apps that have some serious depth. This game should have had a demo.

In regards to bronze, the way the game requires two different ores to make it is pretty similar to how us humans had to make it historically. It was a complicated metal to make and once we discovered the wonders of iron it was quickly replaced. Looks like the devs wanted to mirror this historical aspect of it.

As a survival game fan (started whit ark, conan, good old atlas, rust, forest and now valheim i think the game has a lot of potencial and i can see myself coming back to it, just like i go back to previously listed ones.

I usually don't like survival games but I saw this on steam unknowing it was the internet's current hype. My interest was peaked and I've spent 7+ hours exploring and building a base in the meadows alone already.

Bronze is literally a mix of tin and copper. It's supposed to be grind in the begining. If not it would be way to easy and getting past the ancient one would be quicker than from starting fresh and getting to the first boss

The biggest drawback is that the game completely shits out on you if you have a decent sized base and a friends on with you. Desync and lag through the fucking roof. But that’s stuff they can fix. Other than that, it’s a lot of fun so far.
