What would you say if you found out Dave Grohl’s biggest inspiration for drum licks came from disco albums? There’s no doubt the widespread appeal of "Nevermind" played a pivotal role in his success, solidifying the album's status as one of the highest-selling albums in history. While it's no shock that Dave Grohl, with his distinctive drumming style, admires Neil Peart from Rush and John Bonham from Led Zeppelin (not to mention his appreciation for Ringo Starr), it might be unexpected to learn that Grohl drew inspiration from disco drummers during the recording of "Nevermind."
In an interview with Pharrell Williams, Dave Grohl even said quote “I’m the most basic drummer. If you listen to Nevermind… I pulled so much stuff from the Gap Band and Cameo and Tony Thompson on every one of those songs, all that… that’s old disco. Nobody makes the connection.”
