Star Bolts are an incredibly cost effective way to stabilize masonry walls. The facades of many row homes are relatively freestanding (they’re lightly keyed in). It’s not uncommon to see bulging or bellying at mid-elevation. The joists that run parallel to the face are often pocketed into party walls - a starbolt can be a great way to mechanically connect the facade to the party walls.
