i actually interpreted the song about taking accountability for your actions and realizing that you’re in the wrong. obviously, nobody is an entire problem but it’s good to realize that you contributed to the problem :)

The song is neither about a toxic partner nor about taking accountability. It's about the voice in our head telling us we're not enough. That person is the villain, the anti hero, but they're a part of us. So hating ourselves isn't the solution. That person is a fuck up, but also a part of us. It's a song about self loathing, self hatred but ultimately accepting that you, your anti hero, your larger than self side, ie id, ego and super ego all live in you n you've to deal with them.

The problem is this song is already written from the perspective of the person who's been told she was the problem and finally just stopped trying to fix herself. So she's explaining that she can't fit the mold of someone who refuses to accept that they have flaws.

I relate to Anti-Hero more than I have ever related to any song ever.
I have a difficult personality. But more than that, I have depression, anxiety, Aspergers, ADHD and BPD. So not a lot of people understand me and how my mind works. And at work, at home and even among friends I often get told that that I am the one who has to change. I always get told that I am the problem. And I always have a difficulty getting along with other people, and me listening to this song encompasses the bitterness I feel to always being the problem

I like taylor’s lyrics the best…first in this song the purpose is not romantic so there is no “both” but only us and ourselves, and most of times we are our first enemies because we can be our worst judge, taylor delivered the message beautifully and perfectly…I wouldn’t make it a song about a couple, because in this song there is only our own judgmental perspective
