They lived in the area of Ahqaf - meaning sand dunes - which it is now but before it was lush
He told his people that if you ask Allah for forgiveness, he'll make you even stronger and make you rich

People of A'ad said we don't see any proof in what you are saying. We think our Gods have made you crazy

Allah doesn't look at your results but looks at your efforts - so job of prophet hud was accomplished. And we know that Allah has all of his creation by the forelock.

His people said, we have had enough of you. So bring your punishment
When they saw a cloud coming, they thought it is rain but there was the punishment of Allah in it

It destroyed everything everyone. They were destroyed by the screaming wind that was on them for 7 nights and 8 days.
