A grand jury has voted to indict Donald Trump in New York's Manhattan over a hush money payment made to the adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election. This is the first time in US history a former president has faced a criminal indictment. The indictment comes after an investigation into payments made during his 2016 presidential campaign to silence claims of an extramarital sexual encounter. The indictment itself remains sealed for now. According to reports, the former US President may be taken into law enforcement custody as early as next week. The republican candidate who became US president in 2016, however, termed it political prosecution and claimed that he was innocent. Some outlets have reported that Donald Trump is also ready to cooperate with law enforcement and will surrender. He will also be appearing in court for his arraignment.
