Man, that's a great question. Right now the memory problems of age are due to things specifically associated with aging itself. I guess we'd find out when the first healthy mind made it to the limit. -Anthony

That's a great point! I often wonder what would happen if we all rated our problems as a society and then focused all our expertise on them one at a time. -Anthony

Can Science Stop Aging? In our attempts to live longer, some scientists have learned that the answer to staying forever young is in our bodies.

i am so down for science to end aging or extending our lifespans to a point that we dont have to die at all! its not that im scared of death or anything of that sort i just want to be alive to see all the advances in science and tech! hell im gonna be 35 this month so it looks like my 1st step to living forever would be to download my memories and personality to a computer (their working on a simulated brain), i guess that could be another 10-15 years from now. SCIENCE PLZ HURRY UP WE NEED YOU!

The quantum level is smaller than even that of molecules, and when you start to get down to that level, conventional physics breaks down. Things pop into existence from nothing and then disappear (virtual particles), violate causality, traverse space-time boundaries, and you can't control anything.

I want to live forever, and so do other people

Great summary of this potentially groundbreaking study! In other news, I'll never look at my shoe laces the same way again.

If science can do stop aging, we can explore the universe.. Population growth can be managed and we could create a colony in mars or any planets..

It always goes back to the Hypothalumus

I would definitely use all of this to lengthen my life. I mean it's the only thing that we only get one single copy of, and we can't reuse it. When it's done it's done, so why not extend your stay?

I would love to stop aging, though that brings up a question would we have to work until we had enough saving to be able to live off the interest forever? Retire at the ripe young age of 100!

Thank You! I try to explain this to people, and they just look at me like I have three heads. Just consider how nearly every problem in the world could be eliminated by immortality! Not to mention the fact that I don't want to die.

Personally, if I could live to 120 or 150, I'd be happy.

Stopping aging doesn't mean immortality, so why not.. go ahead.

I hope science goes the digital conscious route to solving the aging process. I'd love to exist as a robot with my downloaded consciousness stored, and if things go wacky I wouldn't have to worry about it because my self would be uploaded and stored until a replacement can be found. I imagine this waiting room to look like sprawling landscape of Second Life

I can't wait until they stop ageing.

What about telomere shortening. I thought that caused aging! Did you ever mentioned that?! Stop making it overly confusing.

They prevent oxidative damage from free radicals, so they can reduce cell damage, which is a large factor in cell aging.

You're still going to have cellular oxidation and you're still going to age for a variety of other reasons. It's far from a fountain of youth, but it certainly helps.

that is one of the best explanations of aging I've heard in a while
