JERUSALEM, ISRAEL'S OLD CITY (not what we expected)

Jerusalem is a place we have known about since before we can remember. It was a surreal experience walking the streets of the Old Town today, but it was also emotionally draining for many reasons. We explored as much as possible in one day including the Temple Mount, the Western Wall, Via Dolorosa, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Mount of Olives, and of course, we ate some delicious local foods. But for some reason, this place wasn’t like we pictured it being.

Israel is a very complicated place, so here are some of our favorite YouTubers who explain the history much better than we can:

GEAR:

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the #travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this #travelvlog to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Kate and Nate... A video you were so nervous about making is, in my opinion, one of the best you have ever put out. I have led five pilgrimages to Jerusalem (one is never a tourist but a pilgrim in the Holy Land) and I must say that you both showed the raw emotion and spiritual awareness that this great city brings. You did a wonderful job of showing the intersection of Islam, Judaism and Christianity. On my first visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre I felt exactly the same way you did and was told to do exactly what you suggested - return early in the morning - and the experience was totally different and caused me to look at the scriptures and my faith through new eye glasses. Very well done!

Kara saying JERUSALEM over and over is a whole mood. Goosebumps this whole video. More determined than ever to see Jerusalem for myself.

I am Muslim and I really enjoyed the video. Kudos to y’all for being consciously aware and getting the difference between Al Aqsa Mosque and Dome of the rock. Love you guys even more and am teary eyed as I write this 🥰😍😘

5 years later, when I need a good cry, I come back to this video. Love you both as family and I wish you the absolute best in life. Least I can do for what this does for me.

Great job covering the city and talking impartially about al religions there while sharing your own faith too. One of your best videos I think.

Having followed you guys for some time now, I think this video really encapsulates what I love most about your travelogues: your humility, self-awareness, and open-mindedness. I really appreciate how you are open about your preconceptions and discoveries throughout your trips, and how you go out of your way to meet and get to know locals in every place you visit. I had a very similar experience in Jerusalem this year, and I am grateful for your insight and vulnerability in this vlog. Thanks for sharing your adventures!

My husband and I traveled through Israel a few years ago and the experience was deeply moving on many levels. I totally understand the emotional feelings you had. History and culture and religion and ideas are pulsing throughout the country. It is unlike any other place we have been.

Thank-you so much. This made me tear up, the closest I can get to the city of my Lord and Saviour. Your simple and honest account still helped me experience the essence of this incredibly special city. One day in His timing, I will go there and live for 6 months so I can fully discover what it may have felt like being with my Yeshua. Bless you guys so much. X Love from Scotland, from an ex Muslim who now knows and loves Jesus so much. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I’ve been to Israel four times, and Jerusalem is my favorite place on earth. I’ve been watching your videos a little less than a year and have been crossing my fingers SO HARD that y’all will go to Israel. Your videos there have been so good - you were so honest and authentic in your experiences, and I’m sure there’s so much more you may have not even fully processed yet. My sister and I both remarked on y’all’s comments about how different your experiences at the Wall were, and that’s almost always how it is for us too!! Additionally, I love that you said you’ll never read your Bible the same way again. It’s truly life changing. Please return one day, there’s so much more of Israel to experience - the Galilee, the desert, the Golan heights. Thank you for giving me this quick escape to Israel 💜

“I will never read my Bible the same”. Kara, I said that to myself over and over during my trip to Israel. ❤️

Kara, Nate!!! I had a hunch that you’re believers by the way that you treat each other, and others. Halfway through when Nate mentioned it, it made me so happy. Thank you for being the light and letting your actions speak louder than words. ❤️

It's crazy...Jerusalem is literally like my back yard, it's a 40 min bus ride from where I live and I go there at least once a week and still I get excited every time I am there and emotional every time I stand in front of the western wall.
I'm glad you guys got to experience it!

I love how you guys described the different aspects of Jerusalem and it's significance to each religion. You could definitely get a sense of the emotion at each location.

Being a Muslim it’s good to know that we all I.e., Muslims, Jews and Christians share the same history and the same Significance for Jerusalem. What you were explaining with so much calmness by looking at the city. I felt exactly the same watching it.
