I worked in state-run corrections for 28 years and have always wondered what the cost effectiveness of privatization is. Makes no sense.

There are private probation companies now, as well. It's absolutely grotesque.

This is why they started making people on electronic monitoring pay for their equipment and "installation". Not as some punitive measure, but because there was a profiter on the other side. Donating to (bribing) lawmakers and public prison officials to introduce the profit motive into the carceral state.

This is the difference between public and private - with private industry there is one individual who becomes insanely wealthy while the workers who facilitate the enterprise make peanuts. Whereas, with public systems, that individual does not exist. Instead, the workers make a higher wage with more robust benefits and a PENSION.

*American "Christian" View:*
"Lock 'em up and throw away the key!"
*The word they claim to profess by:*
*Hebrews 13:3*
"Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering."
*Isaiah 42:7*
"to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness."
*Isaiah 61:1*
"[THE LORD] has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness the prisoners."
*Psalm 69:33*
"The LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people."
*Psalm 102:20*
"[T]o hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death."
*Psalm 146:7*
"The LORD sets prisoners free."
*Matthew 25:36*
"I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me."
*Acts 16:26*
"Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. All the prison doors flew open, and everybody's chains came loose."

It is absolutely disgraceful. Imo we should model our prisons after the success models in Norway which have the lowest reoffend rate in the world. Yes it costs more so won’t happen in America unfortunately but who do you want living by you when the finish their prison sentence; someone who has been tortured for years or someone who has been offered counseling and educational/vocational programs giving them a good leg up on re entering society?
