You should update it so it only works when it's in one direction, but you have to turn it 180° multiple times before it'll work.

Before 1.13 there was a block starting with the letter U. This block was the unlit redstone torch. Then it was merged with the regular torch, which now has the "lit" block state.

Tbh a block like this that only powers from one side would be very cool. Feels like a lot of redstone builds could become very compact.
