Joe Biden Drops Out, Endorses Kamala Harris For President

President Joe Biden has dropped out and has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for President. In a statement addressing the nation, he said: “it has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, - I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down - and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.” He will address the nation later this week in more detail about his decision to drop out. He endorsed Harris saying “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”

Back in 2019, when Biden announced he was going to run in the 2020 election, he said he was going to be a one-term, transitional president.

Had he just stuck with that plan and not run for re-election in 2024, he could have allowed for the Democrats to have an open primary, thus allowing them to pick a stronger candidate, while still leaving in good terms.

Now by opting to run for a 2nd term, then dropping out, he's put the Democratic Party in a more difficult situation.
