*“What’s the song ARCADE about, Duncan?"* - asked by the host of the Dutch TV show DWDD - Duncan answered: _”... I wrote this song during my study at the Rock Academy in Tilburg. It’s a story about a dear person who I lost at a young age. I've always had a hard time dealing with this lost. She had the love of her life but suddenly wasn’t there anymore. And until the end she had the hope that her loved one would come back before she died. But he didn't. And that HOPE I put in this song and video. I shot the naked under water scenes with director/photographer Paul Bellaart. What we mainly wanted to represent in the video is HOPE. The water suface is, as it were, the HOPE of: the light, the dream or the love that’s up there to reach for. The nude reflects the vulnerability and perhaps the rebirth from HOPE ….”_

Duncan wrote this song about a close friend of his whose dying wish was to see her big love again (he had left her) before she past. Sadly he never came to see her.

His nudity stands for our vulnerability in life and love and the surface of the water is representing hope, light and love we are all longing for. Him going back into the f(o)etal position is like a rebirth from hope.

I think it is a beautiful song and the vid is very artistic. Hope he can deliver the same vibe/feeling on stage! Would love for him to win!!

He wrote the song which is why its so emotional to him...its HIS song about somethings from HIS life. A loved one of his passed away at a young age. She lost her love, but always hoped that he would return one never did and she died. To be battling for your life while you cling to hope...in the end its the only thing that truly matters in life...that explains these pure emotions. To cling to hope but he doesn't come back and you die. I guess her love life and her illness was her losing game. While her friendship with Duncan was his losing game. To love and to lose while you desperately cling to hope. Ad duncan's fragile sounding voice to that and its so pure it just rips your heart out every time you hear it. Its love, hope, lose and pain at its purest. 😭

The backstory just makes me love how symbolic that video is. It was already amazing all on its own but to know how deep this goes is just great. Its so well thought of. His struggle to reach the light/hope while getting sucked back into the darkness of the water. The light shining through the surface of the water and those people in the light on the other side of the water waiting for him. He is struggling while naked at his purest and most vulnerable..but no matter how much he struggles he just can't reach the light. Yeah that's a death struggle right there. And to end up in the fetal position in the darkness....he lost the game. Yeah thats so inspired by his friend. The video just is the song...its telling the exact same story.

Anyone that ever lost someone will know the rollercoaster feeling. You wanna get off but you have hope its gonna be ok so you stick around....but its not gonna be ok....its a losing game. And duncan somehow captured that feeling and his voice expresses it so perfectly...the thoughts and the feelings at the same time...no wonder he is making people cry.

Hiiieee, yeah we (The Netherlands) still hold the record for not qualifying for the grand final (2005/2012) but after Anouk in 2013 thankfully things really got better. Loved your reaction to Arcade. much ♥ from The Netherlands
