I’m a sympathetic older American. It angers me that western democracies haven’t given Ukraine permission to use western weapons to their fullest benefit. We also have given too little and in an untimely manner. Ukraine matters.

Your people have fought brilliantly and bravely. The west will be studying this war in order to fight better themselves.

On the “treaty, ” it is all smoke and mirrors. When Russia hits a setback, they declare peace and go home. But the only reason they pull back is so that they can restock and ready themselves to try again. Any peace achieved via diplomacy is a false peace - only a lull in hostilities.

As time flies in the shop said and I agree with him, it was not a peace proposal but a demand for the unconditional surrender of Ukraine. No way Ukraine could accept it!

Coming from a former neutral nation, where all men like me had to serve during the cold war. The probable invader obviously being the USSR at that time. The essence of the defense strategi was—and to my knowledge still is—that we are never to surrender to an invader or occupier. We are all to resist in the way we can, until the aggressor is defeated or “to the very end”. And not only that, but an order from the political or military leadership to surrender control of our territory is an illegal order that must not be obeyed. This means… no peace agreement other than the invader surrendering or leaving! If the government sign a surrender, then our soldiers and the people mustn’t accept it. We either win or succumb.
Now, if that is what would actually happen, we likely won’t ever know. But I personally like the idea that a government that gives up territory, independence, sovereignty, etc, to an invader isn’t a legitimate government any longer.
