No Rest For The Wicked makes a stunning first impression (Early Access Review)

No Rest For The Wicked is an ambitious melding of influences and aspirations - part aRPG, part souls like, part survival game and with far more story presentation than any of those genres are used to. Despite being in early access, No Rest for the Wicked is so inventive, so engaging and so polished that it feels like a genuine game of the year contender in the making.

MOON is also being really good about listening to community feedback. I’m consistently seeing patch notes that directly address some of the Early Access players biggest pain points

This studio really goes all out in the art department 😍

Indie games have become what AAA games used to be.

Imagine a world in which you make 2 award winning pieces of art, than have to release your next project in early access because you have no money. That sure would be a bad time to be alive... Just imagine.

I usually don't feel very drawn by isometric perspective games, but I just might check this one out at some point... Looks beautiful

i swear that first cutscene of this game sold me. The voice acting and the animation. Its like a movie. i hope theres a lot more story.

At first I hated needing to gather to cook just so I have health potions but the more I engaged with the system, the more I really started to enjoy it. That and there's plenty of resources to craft everything I need but as you said, it keeps the player engaged with the surrounding world. I become familiar with the maps and through that familiarity come to love the maps. I don't think I would if it weren't for the gathering system. It's such a nice touch.

The way they have worked donating materials to your local township is awesome, I remember in will of the wisps they had a similar mechanic and it let you access certain parts as you progressed through the wellspring. Nice to hear they added a similar thing here

The game is hard and addicting at the same time. Last night I just cleared echo knight (final crucible boss) for the first time after 70 hrs.

Never liked any equipment durability mechanic in any game I played. Never resulted in feeling the "high stakes" or anything besides annoyance. But besides that, this game looks incredible.

Loving this game so far!

Two of the biggest esrly complaints I've seen (durability, and limited healing items) are both able to be completely mitigated just a couple hours into the game.

If you like to back-track, farm, and gather a lot, you will never run out of food since you'll only ever need it in a pinch since you can use your focus to heal nesrly a third of your hp, and also gain life steal and passive regen just a few hours in.

Oh man, I'd already purchased this but I've been really torn as to whether to jump in during EA or just wait for 1.0 but I think you've sold me on jumping in now, even with all the widely reported performance issues. It looks absolutely incredible. Just hope my PC can run it.

This game is SO good. You hit the nail on the head. Seeing the complains about the "lack of map markers" just pisses me off. Ubisoft ruined exploration of open worlds, this game heals it (like Elden Ring did so well before it). Played pure strength (with that huge weapon in your video) and magic. Both are so different yet so fun to play, I had to really stop myself from playing more. 1.0, please come soon! :)

Disagree with your interpretation of the special abilities. I have used these definitely as part of my complete strategy. I have flame throw to give me a ranged attack and then a spinning attack to stagger and gap close, roll into my standard combo and unleash a massive damage combo. Put some points in focus and you can deal a whole lot more damage with the rune abilities.

Really enjoying it so far, looking forward to the future of this game. Did you encounter any performance issues? I constantly get knocked down to 25-30FPS in some areas, running a 3080 and a Ryzen 7 5700x.

Ori in VR using VorpX is something else. Normal pancake Ori is beautiful but in VR... Can not wait for this one.

My most anticipated game of the year and it doesn't disappoint.

Good review as usual, but the pedant in me screams that it is not isometric. I know no one cares but isometric is used in 2D art to suggest 3 dimension but does not take into account scale as you move up or away from the camera. It is like the original 2d rtss or jungle strike. If things get smaller as they are further from the camera, it isn't isometric.
