Показать описание
Psalm of Life was written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Longfellow was a well-loved and prominent poet in the 19th century. He accepted the professorship at Harvard but decided to quit his job to devote his time in writing books. He was the first American poet to translate Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy.
A Psalm of Life was first published in October 1838 by The Knickerbocker or New-York Monthly Magazine.
This poem deals with the possibilities this life can offer to us. This is a great source of encouragement as to how an individual should live life to its fullest and how to deal positively with the realities of life and even death. This poem reminds that how an individual lives his/her life is more important than how long he'she lives.
It is also stresses that life is real and it is not baseless. But in living life, one must balance and even appreciate both sorrows and happiness in life.
Life must be spent to its fullest in the present. Live life in the present without worrying too much of the past and the future. In living life, one should consider being a great inspiration to approaching generation as great men lived their lives before.
Lastly, as emphasized in the last stanza, one must labor for everything rather than wasting his/her time doing nothing. And most importantly, one has to work and wait patiently for the fruits/rewards of his/her tears and sweats in life.
This is intended for educational purpose.
The author aims to convey insights, principles and guidelines that one may learn from in living live.
