2 5 1 Jazz Guitar Lick - Robert's 2 Minute Lessons (22)

► My Amazon Store:

Let's learn a sweet sounding 2 5 1 jazz guitar lick. It's played over the chords Dm7 (2 chord) G7#5 (5 chord) and Cmaj9 (1 chord).

I have analyzed the lick in terms of scales over each chord, but that's just for understanding the relation between the two. The MOST important thing is to make the line sound good and melodic. I think this one does. What do you think?

You should never, ever just ramble on scales for each chord, because that isn't musical at all. Always focus on melodic lines that fit the song or the chord progression.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Yes, Robert I bought your T bone lesson and learned so much and still am. There's a lifetime of learning there. I very interested in jump blues and know very little theory. Here's a another sham less plug for you. I also am learning the fretboard with your course the note finder I've tried many times to learn the notes, your course made it fun. Keep Smiling . Brilliant Robert!!!

Yes, I would love to learn how to use scales and chords in Jazz as simply as you did for blues, maj and minor scales and pentatonic.

Not only jazz licks but jazz guitar lessons in general would be good .I'm kinda stuck with the pentatonic, major and minor scales in my soloing so how to go from blues to jazzier stuff is something i need.

Yes please, Robert. More Jazz. I am mostly a Jazz player, even Gypsie Jazz but I don't like to restrict to one genre so I try to learn all styles. That said, I've been playing 45 years. Ha ha. We never stop learning.

Hey, if you're ever over here in Australia let me know. I have venues and I'm a producer so we can do gigs etc.

Hope you're well. :-)

Hi Robert...Yes! I enjoy this kind of instruction done this way even though it's not really my bag. I think it's really good if the breakdown fingering is done slowly thereby far easier to work with. Best regards.

Sure, more of anything! Maybe something on applying jazz licks over a simple fast country 1-4-5 song, possibly by implying changes that aren’t there. Also, a good octave displacement lick or two? Many thanks!

I absolutely love this and I would love to see and learn more jazz licks. The reason is that you are such a great teacher and you explain everything so well. I'm bored with that blues licks and I needed something more and beyond pentatonic stuff and that's how I found your stuff on YouTube. So keep going :)

Yes please and I would like to see how these might be "kicked up" and included in a more traditional blues improvisation as opposed to the Jazz blues.
