It’s definitely not SM’s view on tattoos. It’s the broadcasting stations, and the country has a whole in general. All tattoos need to be covered to be able to be broadcasted on TV, so it’s technically illegal in a sense.

Y’all stop hating NingNing. It was her wish to get those tattoos. As I was scrolling down to look at comments I saw a lot of people were hating on her and someone also said it’s “disgusting”. Guys, if you don’t like that she has the tattoos just keep it to yourself it’s useless if you comment in the video. And I’m just a new fan of Aespa and I ain’t hating on her if she got tattoo

For those who are unaware, tattoos in East Asia had been associated with gangsters and underground illegal activity for a very long time. Things may be slowly changing nowadays but its still a huge taboo in certain societies as a whole. I can predict that small scale tattoos will become a norm in the near future but full body art may take at least another decade depending on circumstances.
