The freestyle/skeletool line strikes me less as less of a primary tool with their limited tool compliment, and more as a good secondary tool, with its primary pliers and oversized knife, to compliment a swiss knife or another smaller tool with more numerous other capabilities.

Two comments,

If you want it more grippy and don't mind modding it you can use grip tape on the flat faces of it and take an xacto knife and cut out the outlines of the metal frame...will add some grip to it.

Comment 2: if you hold it the other way when using the pliers then your fingers will be on the end with the driver sticking out rather than your palm...then the driver sticking out is not an issue.

The skeletool is the best compromise between weight and size, of any tool on the market.

Bro, your review is 9yrs old, and I’m here just getting my first skeletool cx for my birthday tomorrow….hahaha! Good to see a true review unlike the most review nowadays more on advertising.

I've just been convinced by this video to get this tool. I was leaning toward the Juice Cs4, but then I thought, I have a full size Rebar, a heavy duty size ST300, and a little gerber dime. So while redundancy is nice, I don't really need to surround myself with more files, saws and scissors. I'm gonna go this for the 'actually on my person' EDC role.

I think you've definitely got the right idea, there. The Skeletool feels sturdier and has less flex than the Juice series but also keeps itself slim, light, and easily pocketed. With only a handful of drivers (using the bits, of course), a knife, pliers, and a bottle opener, it's light on tools but what's there perform close to its bigger brothers, which you already own. You might need more on occasion, but for general, everyday use, what's included with the Skeletool covers the bases nicely.

Just curous; imo, that little bit of paracord won't do much good for you in a "situation."  Do you use it just for a handle tug?  I'm a paracord guy (just ordered the Skeletool CX which is why I was watching your vid) so all I would recommend is carry more paracord (the more, the better).  I have paracord survival bracelets (w/fishing gear woven in), a paracord wrapped belt, shoelaces, hat band, and other stuff.  So I usually have 125 to 175 feet of paracord on me at all times.  From tossing a line in a river to save somebody/starting a fire/rappelling out of a burning building (climbers would advise against it, but I know it works)... it's just too great not to have on you.  10 million uses.

I would not consider a multi tool an every day use tool. It is for those odds and ends jobs. Yes the screwdriver does wobble. Great thorough video. I wouldn’t mind if my pliers were a bit more “sloppy“. All the best. Will.

Thanks for the video. I am looking for a replacement to the Wave as we have changed uniforms and the weight of it pulls the belt out of the hoops when getting dressed. I am a firefighter (therefore anything plastic is out) and find that I use the knife most of all, the screwdriver occasionally and the pliers even less. If I need bigger tools the truck is close by.

Look around online; the vast majority of folks voicing their opinion of the Skeletool are overwhelmingly positive. You keep mentioning losing a screw, but I don't see anyone making the same complaint. Mine has stayed put, as has my coworker's CX; this is reflected in hundreds of other testimonials online. As for the pliers, what is a "serious job" to you? Mine have crimped 12G baling wire on fences, pried open 1/4" chain links, loosened and fastened car battery leads...

I know this is an old video but wanted to share a tip on the driver.. If you put the pliers in the side with the knife the driver is more in line and less "wonky" love this tool great video 👍

Sorry I'm commenting on such an old video, but I really like your channel, and I would like to give you some props. I like how you talk about the effectiveness and use cases of tools rather than just listing specs, and give some personal insight. Even though knife reviews are such a mundane and (I admit) geeky thing, yours are some of the best I've found. Keep up the good work!

Great review. Leatherman stands by their warranty. I had the original Supertool for about 18 years and the pliers tip broke. Leatherman sent me a brand new Supertool 300!

I don't like every Leatherman product, that's a fact. I like some of their products and the Skeletool happens to be one of them. I gave you specific examples of how it performs for me in real world situations and gave some insight into how it seems to be perceived by others at large. We don't have to agree, but jeez, you don't have to turn this into something personal. Why can't we just agree to disagree?

It doesn't have as many functions as other multitools, certainly. But then, if you need those other functions, this isn't the tool for you. You can tell me all day long that the Skeletool doesn't perform well, but in the case of my Skeletool CX, my coworker's, and hundreds of other users, it's just simply not true. Mine works great, has stood up to plenty of regular and varied use and locks up like it did on Day One. Sorry!

I confess that I do like the look of the Skeletool CX, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't perform as advertised. All of the functions do just what they're supposed to and it fills the role of a medium duty multitool with aplomb; that's not just my opinion -- the number of satisfied users sharing their experiences online back this up. If you don't like it, fine, but from my research and experience, your opinion doesn't seem to reflect the general consensus.

... tightened numerous nuts and bolts up on just about everything at home and at work. You're not going to shear through .125" sheet metal or anything, but they work perfectly for *most* nuts and bolts jobs that folks run into on a day to day basis. You sound more like someone who has never used one. If you had, I highly doubt you would find it so reprehensible.

@9:33 I've heard if you put the plier head in the handle, when you're using the driver bit, it's a little easier.

Hi Ahmed! I'm sorry but I don't own own either of the Leatherman tools you mentioned. I wish I could help, but thanks for thinking of me anyway!
