I’m from South Africa and this is exactly how my parents taught me to polish shoes when I was 7.

OK I have watch several videos they say use cold water. I have developed a pretty good method. My father is a leather Smith and he has made me an ostrich wallet lol he was unfortunately in federal prison there in one of their programs, and I take very good care of it before and you had to take care of leather. It was about to fall apart so I decided to retire it and then I found out a whole new world of leather care. What you want to do is do you want to take a lighter and light the Cannes completely on fire until it is melted all in the metal then put the lid back on to put out the flame and use a cotton 100% cotton rag and put small swirls on and then if you want use cold water on your brush to remove the polish you’ll thank me later. I did the same routine you did for a while because I wouldn’t listen to my dad, but I seen my insurance agent who had a pair of shoes that were blinding me and he said he used to be a state agent, and he explain the exact same method. My dad told me so I want to head and tried it again because I had tried it before. It just took a lot longer because it adds more polish, but it is the best method I do believe.
