I was taught since I was a little kid to keep my helmet on till I get to my teams bench. I'm sure he was taught that as well. Also, the rule specifically states you are not allowed to take your helmet off during a touchdown celebration. It specifically says that.😂

"In the field of play" is everywhere except in the marked areas on the sidelines that each teams benches are located. Definitely a penalty. Sometimes it's about the team, not about the player.
