To me it looks like theres a lot more personality to characters that get 3rd (most of the time) cause 1st and 4th place are about what i expect for them and them being 2nd is just less excited 1st place. But when they get 3rd they all have different reactions to being 3rd

Luigi applauding, Waluigi tapping while being disappointed, shy guy shuffling, toad shaking it, daisy and mario shrugging but then daisy thinking afterwards, Yoshi confused on why their player sucks and gets 3rd, Wario very confused, birdo being glad to not get 4th, kamak taking in that he got 3rd, peach just being peach, and koopa not being mad, but disappointed that he got 3rd
