Here's the first paragraph!: Gigarcanum delcourti, formerly Hoplodactylus delcourti, is an extinct species of gecko in the family Diplodactylidae. It is the largest known of all geckos, with a snout-to-vent length (SVL) of 37 cm (14.6 in) and an overall length (including tail) of at least 60 cm (23.6 in). It is only known from a single taxidermied specimen collected in the 19th century that was rediscovered unlabelled in a museum in France. The origin of the specimen was undocumented. While originally suggested to have been from New Zealand and the kawekaweau of Māori oral tradition, DNA evidence from the specimen suggests that it originates from New Caledonia.

Forest, unfortunately according to recent research it's is believed that the remains are from New Caledonia rather than New Zealand as the DNA and lack of other remains of the animal.

And as New Caledonia is a French island, rather than NZ it makes sense that it was found in the French museum rather most most of our fossils or dead species have gone to the British Museum.

If memory serves, they believe that gecko actually came from New Caledonia as opposed to New Zealand. Makes sense too as it's a french-occupied place and a french Museum
