The debate over whether the US should implement a carbon tax is both highly important and highly controversial. Supporters of a carbon tax argue that it would be the most efficient way of addressing climate change and implementing broader fiscal reform, while opponents suggest it would harm the economy and have almost no effect on the climate.

Please join AEI at this event assessing the merits and pitfalls of a US carbon tax. Senators Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Brian Schatz (D-HI) will unveil their own carbon tax proposal, and panelists will debate the implications of such a proposal.

BC gets more than 90% of their power from Hydro, 96% at last release, sorry that Canada did not send you our best or brightest to this forum.

The best part of this was the debate was around 1:12:20.

Here's my summary. Both parties believe in climate change and want a solution but only the Democrats support the bill. The Democrats want to save the planet and spur innovation of green energy. They also think America is the best country to lead the world on the issue. This is obvious by the suggestion to donate the taxes earned by the bill to poor countries. Republicans do not support it because it hurts the American economy and isn't guaranteed to solve the problem. My most annoying thing about the debate was all of the conflicting imaginary climate/economic "models" the speakers mentioned. The only other thing that stood out that agree with was that Republicans should be looking for a solution to this problem while they have power.
