What is Desktop as a Service (DaaS)?

Similar to how software as a service is software that's run through the cloud, desktop as a service is a computer that's run through the cloud.

Now, you might be thinking, "what's the value add here? Why would I use a computer to access a computer in the cloud?"

Well, this comes in handy in a few different situations.

You can essentially access your complete "computer" from your mobile phone or from any other device. You no longer have to worry about mobile compatibility of any particular software, or what is saved where, or anything like that.

You could also potentially get old legacy software running on the cloud as well.

The scalability, flexibility, security, business continuity and disaster preparedness are all generally improved upon as well.

And, although this is still a newer and up-and-coming service offering and the options are somewhat limited, theoretically Desktop-as-a-Service would let you upgrade or downgrade memory, processing power, and any other functionality on an as-needed basis.
