Windows: If you're concerned about wall space put long narrow windows high up on the walls. Sunlight is always a good thing in a big shop and much better/cheaper than having to have the shops lights on all day.

The only thing about heated floors is you better know exactly where anything you want to anchor to the floor is going to be prior to doing the heated floor or else you run the risk of drilling through a heating tube any time you go to anchor something later. As for lighting, I just finished a 40X50x12 building and used eight 150 watt Demilare UFO lights from Amazon. I wired them on 2 switches so that 2 in each row come on staggered so if I dont want as much light it will still light up the entire shop. Its amazing how bright the shop is with all the lights on and I think the fixtures were less than $80 each.

Insulation is your friend. Most importantly insulate under the concrete floor. And around the base of it as well. Radiant tube heater is a far better way to heat. As for air conditioning. Heat pumps are ok as long as there is no dust. They are not designed to be cleaned. So cleaning them is not easy. When they fail often times they are just replaced as parts are often not available. Great for an office. However if any type of dust is present dot such a good idea. Old window or wall ac work well and easy and cheap to replace if they fail. 38 years in the hvac. Business. Take it for what its worth. The insulation under the floor is a must. And beyond worth while. Cheers.

Put your windows up higher in the walls, that way you still get the light from outside, and keep all of your usable wall space. To each their own. Looks like a great place for you and the family. Congrats.

After adding another chip in my epoxy floor from a 19mm impact socket falling off the bench, polished concrete all the way lol. Have some in a small section and it’s definitely a better option for a shop that’s going to see work done.
If you’re dead set on air con in the building, I’d skip the heated floor. But if you were going with just some big ceiling fans and doors open, the heated floor is a good option (I’d recommend the insulation under the pad too then, it looks like legos and the leftovers are actually useful).
I’d recommend 1-2 cox electrical cord reels with rubberized woodhead pendant boxes mounted to the wall or ceiling so you can pull an extension to anywhere in the building. More flexible than a wall outlet imo.
As far as compressed air, put the compressor in an enclosure of some sort so you don’t ruin your hearing any more than it already is. Fast pipe is a really convenient system for the air piping.
Home Depot had some really nice high bay square shaped led light fixtures for a good price (the room those are in is not high bay and they’re borderline too bright).
Put in as big of an electrical panel as possible, otherwise you will end up needing subpanels lol
Don’t stress about making it perfect from the jump, you will be making changes and rearranging all the time, just like a race car.
Looks great and good luck with all the permits and inspections and red tape

Joe, I know it is kind of late in the process, but if you want windows and wall space, you could put windows at the very top of the walls. Also, since it sounds like you are going to have a climate controlled barn, and if your builder isn't already planning to do it, now is the time to put on house wrap.

I find it crazy how little structure you guys build your shops with down in the US. 16-24” centers and x bracing is how we do it here. Also I work every day in a shop with a polished, heated slab and that is 100% the way it should be done. 10 years of heavy truck/excavator work done in that shop and the floor looks fantastic still. You also are only heating the area that you are working in, instead of heating the rafters. Also easier on the feet and body having a warm slab and it keeps the shop super dry in winter. Also put as much insulation as possible in there, and sheet the walls. It will hold the heat in winter and keep the shop cool in the summer. My home shop is generally 10* cooler then ambient temps all summer with nothing other then good insulation

Easy to add windows, hard to add heated floors, all the concrete guys hate the tubes and worry they will have issues that they will have to fix, talk to companies that specialize to heated floors, to get the names of good contractors talk to the heated flooring people they know who does the best installs. Polished floors are all around us, we just never notice, home depot, hospitals, and so on, the best thing is to talk to the conpanies that do the grinding of the floors and get their recomendation for your use, and then compare the upkeep, staining and lifetime of the epoxy and polished flooring, you will then have the best info to make an informed choice. The PM on your building job should be doing all of this for you and then giving you the info. I hope you have a PM working for you on this, whole project,

If you can add a floor drain/french drain somewhere inside, it’s awesome! It’s nice during the winter to be able to wash cars or pressure wash stuff off inside!

The only problem I see with polished concrete is if you get fluids on the ground you now have a blue collar ice rink. Epoxy with chips for texture gives you traction when the floors wet in my experience

I bought a property that had a 30x52 pole barn. First 26' was finished, back 26' was unfinished. The front half had old fluorescent lights. I retro-fitted them for LED's. Back half, I just had LED's installed. In 30x52, I have 156 4' LED bulbs. No regrets! I'm not sure what you're doing for power and not entirely sure what you might want to do, but having two or three phase power is nice sometimes. Not sure if you're going to do a compressor, if you can do a little dog house and put the compressor outside. My shop has an air chuck on the wall about every 6' around the perimeter. I'd put a bathroom, possibly even a shower and stackable washer/dryer. This allows you to clean up and not drag anything inside, allows you to not have to go into the house to use the bathroom and you don't mess up the nice washer/dryer with shop clothes, rags, etc. Oh, and internet! If you can trench or point-to-point wireless between house and your shop. Nice to have for sure.

I worked at a couple big diesel shop the best and well light. Was at a KW dealership they polished the floors the applied a semi gloss coating. This made the floor reflect all the light. Traditional lights where to bright the installed soft glow led lights and you almost didn't need a drop light. Boss said cut light bill by a third. Don't know what power costs out your way. But my save you some money. plus with the high roof are truck shops had 20 foot ceiling 14 foot door 3 ft for overhead drain light being that high will need to be bright then normal just to make up for the height. If your planning on installing light directly over engine work bays I would recommend installing over fenders. Light directly above creates shadows. Over fenders no shadows. Enjoy, congratulations on the move up👍

Thats gonna be a killer shop. I feel your pain on the craziness to build a shop. I poured about 10K in just dirt to be able to pass inspection to build. My list of thing to do it different would be a bathroom of some kind, never fails get to the shop and got to go back to the house, a/c is something I am still working on getting in mine, would love to have my 14 foot ceilings covered in the white metal to make it brighter and easier to heat and cool when that comes. I decided against heated floors for the reason of drilling holes for lifts and other things getting mounted to the floor.

I put two 20’ long I beams in the floor with the tops exposed for building things on, pulling, etc…being able to weld to a flat level structure can come in handy. They are useful without being in the way.

The paint from lowes with the speckles was the best thing i did to garage floor. Seals it and oil and junk wipes up without staining
