What are they talking about? Eriksen, Kane and Alderweireld are probably the 3 most important players for Spurs. When they had the same discussion about Dele Ali they couldn't stop bragging about how good he is, but in my view, Eriksen is a much better footballer the Ali. Christian Eriksen might sign the contract and still go to the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona. The problem with Tottenham is their wages. Eriksen is one of the best Premier League players, he makes this Spurs team tick. Talking of Dybala, he won't even consider coming to Spurs. With all due respect to Spurs, Spurs quite hasn't been able to attract those top-end players, they rely mostly on youth players. Eriksen might win trophies if he went to the likes Munich, Madrid or Barcelona.

Also, Eriksen is Scandinanvian and is presumably well adapted to British culture and the Premier League style - not all players (e.g. potentially Dybala) are capable of adapting.

Therefore, it's not just the cost of replacing Eriksen, but a massive gamble to boot that whoever comes in is capable of playing at a consistently high level in the top league in the world (the Premier League).

I think eriksen will go to Real Madrid as they have reported interest in him and might sign him in the summer which is only when he has only 1 yr left on his contract like they did with courtois
