This instrument reminds me of Marvin Suggs of the Muppets. He had a group of furry creatures called muppaphones. He played tunes by hitting them with a mallet. Each one would yell OW! and were arranged in order Do, Re, Mi etc. The muppaphones would come on the stage talking among themselves about headaches & running away.
