I had writers block through a whole year, i literally was in a really bad cycle of frustration, and i couldn't escape it, it was my worst year in life, my grandma died, my cat died and i even thought my passion for music died, just recently i just started doing more things, going outside more, got into a new job and i've been trying my hardest to get out of my depression first, and i've gotten better, its not perfect, i've made a little amount of music but at least i've made something instead of being the whole year doing nothing, so i want to let you guys know that what jon's saying about being active is entirely true, no need to do great things all the time, just do things and inspiration grows from what you experience in the process of doing stuff

Just pick up a pen and write...I write a song every day. They aren't all good but every now and then, I come up with something decent.

Getting inspired is also depended to your own capability/skill, inspiration can be drawn from anything anywhere, but are you capable enough to identify it? So for me, keep practicing with making music no matter if it’s good or bad, keep watching and listening to your surroundings.

for sure, repetition will take you to that zone. I read a book about this topic, and it says " The difference between professional and amateur is that an amateur waits till the inspiration comes and the professional knows that inspirations come while working "

My easy technique (make sure you save your daw project first): 1. Put reverb+all Efx. Commit. And Bounce that sub- group channel Earlier on. When you repeat that step, and have a final song. And you don’t like it. Do it from scratch. TLDR (Commit early. Bounce with all EFx on). Especially your efx sound is half of your arrangement.
2. You can’t sound perfect on two different kinds of speakers. Pick one. Optimize your sound to that speaker.

3. Make sure if the channel needs, reverb or delay (/stereo delay) or both. Make sure you know what you want.

4. It might be a drum programming, rhythm change you might be missing. Try recreating “enter the sand man” (Metallica) on DAW. It’s much easier to hand drum that, and write it down the pattern on a piece of paper. The reason being why is that is the pocket feel doesn’t fit perfect in One Bar in DAW. There are a lot of songs like this. I suggest to anyone “hand drum, drum while singing something, and record it with your phone. And punch that midi in your daw, if you want to see how it’s supposed to line up with all other channels.

1. use only one synth and use its presets or your own sounds and create a song
or
2. remove all of your plugins and use only the internal DAW plugins from Logic, Cubase, etc.
3. DO IT NOW

Hey John, do you still use the Icon Platform M+? If not, why?
I’ve been eyeballing the controller for a while now 👀

Can we see some more DJ videos? Maybe a live stream set would be awesome (especially during Corona)

Don't forget that you need the musical knowledge, experience and skill, when inspiration strikes. If you are trying to get inspired by different forms of stimuli, you have to be ready to do something with it. The best advice is to practice everyday on your musical skills, theory and develop the ability to make better music each and everyday, so when inspiration strikes, you're ready to take it to the next level. The more hours you put in to playing an instrument, the better the learning process while playing within the creative flow. This is where magic happens and you capture lightning in a bottle.

you could try acrylic pouring or spray paint art ( in summer outside). always did that to release my productive pressure. easy art is good way to relax, and not pushing to hard to be creative. ideas typical come when your nearby and don't push to hard. so getting in a relaxed mood is key.

My situation is a bit hard but I am trying to stick with it I love music production. Let's be honest if anyone can do it like yourself Jon then anyone one can do it. The bug but is do they have the will power to stick to the journey like you did that is great big question 👏?

Also quasi einen Remix machen. Durch das Lösen dieser Aufgabe wird meist automatisch die Kreativität angeregt und man kommt auf interessante neue Ideen. Hinterher schmeiß ich die Vocals raus und hab' mein Instrumental.

To me to find the inspiration as a producer is to find the right sounds
A cool sound when I listen o create it from sound design and I say oh this is cool and in my mind I have the idea 💡=inspiration
But this work only for me

When I’m using demo version without no vst no cool sound I fill stock and limited

What is the synth on the keyboard stand called again? It's the only one I don't immediately recognize.

You’re in good company with sampling matches - listen to the snare in Billie Eilish ‘watch’
