Oh my goodness, run far, far away from the Message and the Passion "Bibles" haha it's complete heresy!
But NASB, KJV, NKJV, and CSB are more word for word...NIV and NLT are slightly more thought for thought.

Great video! I really enjoyed it! God bless!

You can have your Bible rebound and recovered. There are several people who do it & then it won’t be dropping bits, but you can still use it.

I completely agree with your perspective on the paraphrase "translations" as they are more of a commentary rather than a translation. However when it comes to word for word & more dynamic equivalents, please remember that word for word does not necessarily mean more accurate. That's not what it means at all. Word for word simply means that they took a sentence for example and translated each Greek/Hebrew word for the English word in the exact order in which it was placed in the original text. Here is the issue with that, no two languages use the same sentence/grammar structures. That's why sometimes when reading a NASB or KJV the reading is very clunky as the order of the words don't make sense for English grammar structure. Also there are going to be words in one language that don't have a translator word replacement in the other language. Also two languages aren't going to always have the same verbs/adjectives etc. KJV is simply just one of the first English translations we did but at the end of the day it is just that a "translation" and no two will ever be exact to a "T". It is simply impossible. There's no way translate perfectly two different languages. Dynamic equivalents are just as reliable to read God's word. I know this comment is lengthy but I really feel in my heart sometimes that these categories are misunderstood and I would never want to steer someone away from coming to Jesus because they think that they only have to read KJV or they won't really be reading the bible. That couldn't be farther from the truth.

I have my grandmother's and grandfather's bibles from the late 1880s. My grandma always cut out articles from new papers and tucked them into placed with specific verses, and all of those cuttings are still in the bible. It's priceless to me.

We won't get through this in an afternoon Ms. The 4 I use the most are the 1611 KING JAMES, the 1966 GOOD NEWS, the 1966 Catholic RSV, and the 2006 2nd edition of the Catholic RSV . Some honorable mentions include the 1970 NEW ENGLISH, the 1982 NEW KING JAMES, and the 2004 HCSB.

I'm not a native english speaker but I can speak, read and understand it fluently. I'm using english language bibles because they are the easiest available. The app you mentioned is great because it helps me do the research.

Thank God for your grandma. Like her, I started on the KJV since the 1960's and still use it. I did read the top five translations. But I keep going back to the KJV for many reasons. I've put in thousands of hours studying the Textual issue. I read my bible daily. Rarely do I use study bibles. Keep reading your bible, putting God first in everything you do. God bless you with a happy life full of wisdom.

Awh, I love that you have your great grandmother’s Bible. I have my great grandmother’s Bible too. She passed away before I was born, but just like you I love going back through it. ❤

Hi Kendra. Amen on John MacArthur Study Bible!! My Husband of 58 years, our Daughter, and our four Granddaughters all have his Study Bible and we’ve all been blessed by his teaching! I also love C.H SPURGEON! You did a great job on the false translations! Blessings and Prayers to you and your Husband!

My mom still has her bible that her parents bought her when she was a little girl. Its all torn and worn out but she still keeps it on her shelf, and bought a huge family bible to read. Her favorite part about her bible is the red letters.

I totally agree with your opinion on translation. The message actually uses occult terminology in some of his paraphrasing.

The CSB is what I use most now. I used to be a NASB girl because it’s so close to the original text. But when I researched it, the CSB was one step more “readable” than the NASB. Also, the Message gets a point because Peterson has said in interviews that it shouldn’t be used as someone’s Bible, preached, or studied from (as opposed to what Simmons claims about the Passion🤦‍♀️). When I was first getting into the Word as a high schooler, I actually had a side-by-side NASB and Message that was so helpful. A word-for-word right next to that expanded paraphrase really helped me get my Biblical “sea legs”😆 I LOVED this video, btw!
