The board of NatWest Group has said it retains “full confidence” in Dame Alison Rose, as she admitted to a “serious error of judgment” in discussing Nigel Farage’s relationship with private bank Coutts, owned by NatWest Group, with a BBC journalist.

In a statement, NatWest Group’s chairman Sir Howard Davies said the bank’s chief executive “should not have spoken in the way she did” and that the events will be “taken into account in decisions on remuneration at the appropriate time”.

However, Sir Howard said the board concluded that “it retains full confidence in Ms Rose as CEO of the bank”, having proved over the last four years to be “an outstanding leader of the institution”.

The statement comes after the chairman was put under mounting pressure to determine whether Dame Alison had played a role in the leaking of Mr Farage’s information.

Mr Farage won an apology from the BBC over an inaccurate story that suggested the closure of his account was not due to his political views but because he lacked the funds needed to hold an account at the high-net-worth bank.

TalkTV’s Vanessa Feltz is joined by political editor Kate McCann to discuss the latest on the breaking story.

39% publicly owned and the CEO can do something that would result in the sack for any NatWest employee . These people are narcissists .

Hope Nigel sues her for a huge amount! Anytime a CEO spreads even the smallest detail about one of their members accounts, it must be a Breach of Privacy or Ethics!! NO simple apology could possibly be acceptable, she needs to be FIRED, no option of resigning...

Alison Rose should tender her resignation and the bank should reinstate Farage's account forthwith.

The first woman in a top UK banking job and she's been an absolute disaster. She's got to go!

Alison Rose's spin on what she said, stating she told her dinner buddy journalist to go to the website for information is simply unbelievable. She totally had a cosy little airing of confidential information with her dinner companion. No one should be hoodwinked by her self-serving version of events.

This woman must be sacked immediately. Not allowed to resign with a giant pay-off. How many other accounts have been discussed by her in flagrant disregard of accepted banking practices. The mealy mouthed excuses she has put forward are not good enough. She has to go, NOW! I rather suspect that there will be a lot of people moving accounts to other banks as Nat West can no longer be trusted to keep personal information confidential.

FIRST comes the apology
NEXT comes the sacking

What Natwest Coutts should do is offer publicly to:

1. Reinstate all Nigel's account in full
2. Offer a review of all previously closed accounts
3. Sack Alison Rose
4. Offer to donate a large sum of money to a charity of Nigel's choice
5. Issue/Re-issue full and u qualified apology to BOTH Nigel and any wrongly treated customers.
6. Do all this quickly.

Anything less than this is rubbish from Natwest/Coutts

As a Nat West customer for over 60 years I would like the NatWest chairperson to resign immediately. How can any customer, (including all those other 'bigwigs' who were at the dinner where she was revealing a customer's financial detail, ) now have trust in the bank?

She must get a lifetime ban from performing financial services

A bank talking about someone's account to the BBC, is like walking into a pub and your doctor discussing your symptoms to the locals. Absolutely breach of confidentiality and disgusting behaviour.
