How To Make Fire With A “Wood Shavings Tinder Bundle”

If everything is so wet that you have to use "dead standing" to make a Bow Drill friction fire, shouldn't you also know how to make a wood shavings tinder bundle? ...and bring it to flames?
To make and ignite a wood shavings tinder bundle use scrapings, feathers , and coarse shavings. Build it with a handful of coarse shavings, then feathers, then half of the scrapings, place the ember on and cover it with the rest of the scrapings. Give it a couple of minutes to cook and grow the ember. Invariably, a flame will pop up during the ember building process. Ignore it, snuff it out, or just pile more shavings on it. You'll want to keep building that ember until it’s so big and so hot that you have to get it out of your hand and into the hobo stove.
Do not make the mistake of putting this type of bundle into the hobo stove at first flames. If it goes out there'll not be enough coals within to blow it back into flames.

It's amazing how the ember really needs time. I used to think that blowing an ember into flames was possible, but it is not. It has to mature of itself and no blowing will turn it into an open flame. Nature is amazing.

David, I feel the need to thank you again and again! After many attempts I only managed to produce coals but I couldn't get them to flame. Watching your wood shavings tinder bundle videos over and over again did the trick and today I finally managed to make a fire end to end by bow drilling and using wood shavings! I applied the tips you so generously offer and was absolutely jaded when I finally let the ember cooked and got to flame! An incredible feeling! Thank you so much!
