ABOUT NEW AMSTERDAM
After a tumultuous year in which the leadership of New Amsterdam underwent dramatic change, the idealistic and beloved Max Goodwin is back at the helm.

As Max takes back the reins at New York City's busiest public hospital, he must first address his own personal life, which was thrown into uncertainty at the conclusion of Season 4. Max and the team forge ahead with optimism and a renewed commitment to their own lives - reaching for more joy and forging deeper connections with the people they love.

Dr. Bloom continues to navigate her own personal journey, including a complicated relationship with her estranged sister, Vanessa. Dr. Frome tackles the mess he has made of his marriage to Martin. Dr. Reynolds continues to sort out the relationship with his long-lost father, Horace. And finally, Dr. Elizabeth Wilder, who joined the staff last year, continues to build on her firm foundation as a critical member of the New Amsterdam team and a vital friend and confidante.

I have a hard time believing Helen would do something like this knowing who she was and if we put that aside and believe it then that's the definition of a soul mate someone that put u above all of what they are and believe

Helen saved Max's life at least twice before..the chemical spill and when he fell out on the pier. Helen guided Georgia in getting a pathway to his breathing...and in my mind..he and Luna went to London when left NA..to be with Helen.

I think Ryan Eggold is a phenomenal actor. It really was so easy to believe that he really loved Dr. Sharpe.

I’ve never seen a show spend their saving grace LAST SEASON solely on vilifying a character and undercutting who she was out of anger for the actress leaving instead of just spending it ending it the way it deserves. This last season has been them writing with HATE and it’s been a terrible season and they should be ashamed of themselves

Even with all of these ''bad'' scripts on NEW AMSTERDAM 5, one thing is 100% there: YOU CANNOT KILL DR HELEN. You even made one season out of her so this is HOW GREAT THE CHARACTER WAS. The best!!
She saved Max twice, she saved Luna, she saved Lauren, she made all things mattered come to a close.

I stopped watching this when Helen was no longer on the show it became dumb af and he just jumped in a relationship with the other lady i can't believe it they're relationship looks unrealistic the storyline each became all over the place so I just end it was the dumbest show ever

Y'all have a lot of nerve to be so petty that you would destroy a character like Helen, because you were mad the actress didn't want to come back. You destroyed her. You destroyed the show. I don't understand why y'all decided to go down this route but man. Just disappointing.

She saved Max's life by bringing Dr. Castro to DAM, whom, those who were watching since the beginning know that, was the one in charge of selecting the patients to be Included in the trial. Helen should have just left Max dying back then. The man has no gratitude and hasn't learned anything with the past in this 5th S. Keep putting the hospital before his family. Poor Georgia, poor Helen and poor Luna...We'd be better off without this season at all...

This is the first time I've seen a drama that destroys the former main character because it doesn't return to the old scenes used to badmouth the main players with unfinished problems, there are still many questions from their loyal fans, especially Sharpwin, which ends in their anger because their character is made like vilian lethal drugs; it's clear from the previous season why he did that ...to save his friends, colleagues and they ended up getting engaged, why did it end like this.. it's crazy, the writer ran out of ideas whether this method was like revenge or couldn't it be more honorable, even though there were many moments on s4 to be able to make helen unable to play in NA preferring a painful ending loyal fans .. very unfortunate and embarrassing and ended the show being canceled by NBC

Many commenters here are disappointed with the changes the screenwriters had made on Helen's characterization. You know what would have happened after they told Max the reason Helen did that for love. The next scene should be Max becomes emotional and runs out of the room and looks for Helen to confront her. This will be the first time he actually talks to Helen face-to-face, and then the screenwriters can choose what to write then. It isn't Max's nature to sit there and asks his GF the "What she would do" hypothetical scenario.

Anyways, there is so much inconsistency in the writing.

All the good couples always get ruined like we all knew they had so much chemistry since season 1 why didn't they put them in sooner like in the beginning of season 3 they always wait until the end of the show I'm disappointed she left this show isn't good without her 💔😕
